HELP: E-M5 + 60 macro or E-pl5 + 75 1.8

Hello, I´m still debating what to buy to lighten my kit.

Currently I use Nikon + 85 f 1.8 and Tamron 70-300 VC.

For the budget I can spend thes are the choices

E-M5 + 60 macro or E-pl5 + 75 1.8 and oly 40-150 in both cases.

Would the 60 macro give me the DOF more or less I get actually ?

I prefer the 75 for DOF and reach but Is the EPL-5 (+vf2) + 75  easy to handle ?

And this the type of pictures I take.

Thanks in advance.

Don't we wish all choices in life were this "difficult"?

Is there a particular reason why you're only able to select the 60mm Olympic macro lens? There's an embarrassment of riches of other lenses at or near the same price point. I didn't click on your Flickr link, so, I don't know if you shoot macro photography all too much. But from the pics that you've shared here, I would imagine the 17mm 1.8 or even the 45mm 1.8 would be a more useful piece of kit in your bag.

Re: HELP: E-M5 + 60 macro or E-pl5 + 75 1.8

Thanks.

I had to say that I shoot street portraits and candids mainly, and the 60 macro gives me a reach of 120 mm equivalent, similar to my actual 85 nikon. Nd could of course use it for macro.

I doubt on the DOF, which I like to be thin.....

I´m comfortable from those 120 mm. onwards, thus the election.

Sure I´d prefer 75 , but have a (mentally) limited budget and could not choose    e-m5 + 75 that I think would be almost perfect.

Choices are E-M5 + 60 macro or E-pl5 + 75 1.8 now, or keep my nikon gear (more weight, more noticeable) and save for the "perfect" combination.

If money wasn´t an obstacle, I´ll probaly choose E-m5 + 45 +pana 35-100 for the flexibility of zoom.

So would e-pl5 handle well with the 75 ?

I'd be really tempted, if I was in your position, to grab the OM-D and the 75mm.

You'll be missing a telezoom, but then you could buy the 40-150 in the future, when budget allows and when it's on sale.

The OM-D gives you really nice manual controls, and the 75mm is perfect for your photo style.

Re: HELP: E-M5 + 60 macro or E-pl5 + 75 1.8

You have some beautiful shots in your Flickr gallery.

You may already be aware of this, but m43 cameras have a different crop factor due to their sensor size to your Nikon. I'm not sure whether you are using full frame or APS-C, but you need to take that into account when choosing your focal length.

I used to have a heavy DSLR, but once I tried a m43 camera I never looked back. I now have an E-M5 and absolutely love it, but if you really want shallow depth of field then the 75mm is the way to go. If you do go the 60mm route and aren't concerned with weathersealing (I assume not if you are considering the E-PL5 & 75mm) or macro then take a look at the new Sigma 60mm f2.8. There aren't many reviews out yet, but those samples I've seen show it to be on a par (or even a bit sharper) than the Olympus 60mm, at a much lower cost. It may even enable you to buy a used 45mm f1.8 or 20mm f1.7 to compliment your 60mm for the same overall outlay.

Sorry I didn't really answer your question, but hopefully I've given you more food for thought...

75mm is on the longer side for streets/portraits but it will give you less dof images, closer to what I saw from full frame cameras vs 60mm is a smaller lens and will give you the macro option. You can use 75mm for macro also as it is the sharpest m43 lens. You can check Robin's reviews on both with his street shots:

Thanks for the replies.

I think I will br debating untill..........I get the money for  the desired combination.

Meanwhile I´ll carry my nikon gear (apsc) which allows mw still to take the pics I like.
