Old landscape

An example of extremely deep routed grasses like big bluestem shown dominating here with an open oak-hickory canopy was a common scene in this part of the world prior to the tactic of complete fire suppression. Along with the native flowers, I think this makes an attractive view into the past.

Re: Old landscape

The one upside to all the rain we have in England is how green our landscape is. If I don’t cut the grass for a couple of weeks my garden looks like your photo. I have a meadow for my lawn, I like it, but I think my neighbours are not so happy. Sorry if I’m a bit off subject but I don’t know about hickory and bluestem.

front garden, hard to tell but the yellow flowers are on stems about 8" high

back, it's hard to see but grass is a foot long in places

Edit, what on earth has dpr galleries done to my portrait photo? It's been squished!
