It's just okay

I've been in the process of finding a really nice bridge camera to use for car shows that I frequent as well as an upcoming trip to Niagara Falls. I had previously been using an old PowerShot A560 and my iPhone and had been wanting to pick up a DSLR to start taking some more professional photos. Unfortunately most of those are out of my price range. After doing some research I settled on picking up the SX500 IS at a local store yesterday.

I've played around with it a bit and the one negative I've noticed is bad chromatic aberration. I will be the first to admit before yesterday I did not even know what this was but I noticed it in the photos I was taking and did some research. Unfortunately this seems to be one of the downfalls of the lens in this camera. I'm currently trying to decide if I can live with it or upgrade to an SX50 HS. I have found that software such as Adobe Lightroom is capable of removing chromatic aberration so I may just deal with it and clean it up on my computer afterward.

This camera is a great deal especially if you pick it up right now as it's on sale for $200. Never would I have imagined I would have a bridge camera with so many features for this price. I am just not sure if anything in this price range is going to have the quality I'm looking for.

I have been a pro since 1945 and for the price , this is the best little camera I had  in my hands.

You must have gotten a lemon. I have shot over 300 pix with it in the 5 days I hand it and All color are focusing right where they are suppose to. Send it back. Mine is a five star.

Car shows...

Car shows are tough...   Mixed lighting conditions and the need to push ISO higher for flashless shots makes it even harder...
You are right, that in the end that is dslr territory.  Or at least hi end P&S.
My guess is that the SX 50 with its RAW capabilities might be better.   The G15 also would be better.
Good luck and have a great trip to Niagra Falls.
(at car shows, I usually give up and shoot chrome)  8^)
