What do you use for walk around lens A77

I am looking to buy a new walk around. I haven't decided if I should go 16-50 or 24-70. I have a 70 400g. What do you gents and gals use?

I found my 35 1.8 was on my camera 80% of the time. Until lately. I just bought a Tokina 28-70 2.8 and it's been fantastic. It's job is to hold me over until I can afford the CZ.

I have the A65 which is the little brother to the A77 and I use the Sony 16-50 as a walk-around.

I was considering the new sigma 35 1.8 but not sure about that glass yet.

I've got the CZ 16-80 on my a77 and keep the Tamron 70-300 USD in the backpack.

Re: What do you use for walk around lens A77

I also have the A77 and I use my 70-400 a lot. I also have many other lenses but the two that are on the camera nearly all the time are the 16-50 and the 70-400. I also have a 28-75 2.8 and it never gets used any more. I am extremely pleased with these two and see no reason to change.

Re: What do you use for walk around lens A77

If buying new and getting a "kit" I can certainly see this as an "obvious" choice. Sure makes a lot more sense than a 35mm prime to me.

This whole issue is really a personal choice based on shooting style and subject matter so the right answer it what the photographer wants to do with the camera. For me, the idea you're considering of the 16-50 and the 70-400 makes a whole lot of sense--wish I could afford them!

Sony SAL16-50 - perfect match for the A77. Both weather sealed. Had 4 weeks in Europe in 2012 with this combo and was on camera 95% of the time.

Might lack a little on the reach side but I've been very happy with that setup.

So much so that I have the matching setup in full frame with the A99 + CZ240-70.

Outside in good light the Sony 18-250mm used mostly at f8. For poor light the Sony 35mm f1.8.

Re: What do you use for walk around lens A77

I'm a long time user of the Sony 16-105 which I find an excellent balance of size, weight, and has the essential (for me) 16mm width plus a half decent reach. Quality is great for 95% of shots (on A700 & 57- not tried on A77).

Good luck !

What you you are walking for?.

Depends on what you you are walking for.

I usually walk with Sony 70-40omm looking for wildlife, but sometimes I have to walk with Sony 20mm/2.8 around the landscape of my favorite lake. I also use Tamron 90mm/2.8 for macro bugs/flower shots. I wouldn't walk without Sony 50mm/1.4 indoor. It all depends on what you are walking for.

Re: What do you use for walk around lens A77

I've found that I usually mount a prime (35/1.8, 50/1.4, or 135STF) when just out and about with the A77. Nice thing about the small 35 and 50 is that you can carry one in your pocket.

With my previous DSLRs it was normally a zoom but the A77 seems to have changed the way I go about things quite a bit.

I'm using an 16-80Z on mine. Expensive but I have a good one. Light and great IQ and the range is just about right for a walk around. On my A99 or the A900 it is the 24-70Z most definitely. If they made a 16-80 that was a 2.8 I would buy it! I tried cheaper glass but was unhappy. Have 16-105 but is no comparison to the 16-80Z. That lens would have been the best range for a walk around.
I do have plenty of lenses to choose from but this is the one I love.

I was close to getting the 16-80z and actually the guy in the sony store had me second guessing myself over that and 16 50, so I ,,left with neither.

A77 + 16105, I have a very good copy of the 16105.

When I carry this kit I always have the 70200G in the bag as well.
