Yeah, as they suddenly tried to matter to the Nikonians after the release of the D800. Remember the time when 12mp was enough?

Only effectively matter a) when you have lenses that capable to resolve 36mp or 40mp; b) you do need to print that big or you have higher enough resolution monitors such as 4K and 8K capable displaying these pixels.

They do not care about differences or detail, they only ask "do I like the picture?" If the answer is "yes," the whole frame might be mush only - they would still say that it is good if the content is interesting and emotionally powerful.
However, the content and the technical quality of an image are two entirely different aspects, and there never was a situation where a brilliant content did not benefit from an equally brilliant technical presentation.

Everything matters - but the relative weights of the elements depend on the subject matter.

Every lens known to man shows improvement from 8mp to 15-18mp APS-C, which translates from 5D2-3/6D to the hypothetical 40mp FF sensor. In fact, there are tests of EF lenses with Pentax Q, and it surprising to see how much resolution is lost with the current 20-22mp sensors.

I found the opposite.   Most of the posts back then were a call for more MP....that said, I find 12 to be fine for wedding and portaits.  But for landscapes, or large group shots, I love the D800.  The 5D3 is fairly close up to 20x30 in scenes that dont require a large dynamic range.

I found that even my old 35mm afd was great on my D800.  Modern lenses do just fine.

Yap, exactly as DXOMark Lab tests show. As a matter of fact, when Canon high MP camera is released there are more Canon lenses can take advantage of those pixels than Nikon's ones.

GB, I know based on my own experiences in owning and extensively using 4 different crop format Canon cameras, this is not true.  Usually larger sensor results to better highlight clipping.

I am going to test this in a control way between my 5DIII, 60D and S95, maybe in this weekend.

Very true as very very few Nikon lenses will be mounted on that Canon. Lets hope the higher MP doesn't make to obvious the minor flaws in lens and technique.

My opinions are my own and not those of DPR or its administration. They carry no 'special' value (except to me and Lacie of course)
