Re: Leica Mini M > Here it is !

The other camera in the background is an X2, isn't it?

Hmm. You think my not recognizing a Leica X2 makes me a "neophyte"?  You mean that makes me a "Leica neophyte" or just an ignorant person in general?  And just what's a "drop in neophyte"?  Is that a stranger who is also ignorant, at least ignorant of all things Leica, or simply an itinerant idiot? And how would you describe yourself, JD?

Re: Leica Mini M

The figures given for the lens make no sense: 28-70mm f3.5-6.4.

28mm at f3.5 gives a diameter of 8mm whereas 70mm at f6.4 gives a diaphragm diameter of 10.9mm. Why would the diaphragm change by such a strange amount? Reversing the argument, going back to 28mm, the diaphragm reduces to give a slower f stop. This is senseless.

What's so good?

Ok, the lens is faster, but nothing amazing.

And still no viewfinder.

I am guessing the viewfinder will be electronic and an accessory.

we have great fun telling Leica what they should have in thier cameras but lets not loose grip on reality we represent a fairly small percentage of the people who will buying this camera.

I am willing to bet the farm that only about twenty five percent or so of buyers will spring for the accessory finder now that we are well into retraining the young on cell phone cameras and we old foggies are dying off the view finder will wither away.

God in heaven is happy that with the advent of smart phonse the vast majority of his flock have finally demonstrated the heavenly use of our opposed thumbs and with the lcd viewfinder we can now demonstrate a renewd respect for our elbows.

but bottom line is if Leica builds an optical finder of the quality we expect from them it would add a thousand dollars to the cost and about three quarters of an inch in height.  and it still wouldm't zoom

This one looks like a an upscale Sony RX100... the look is different from the other leaked picture: here it seems that the zoom lens is retractable.

At this point, I've started thinking that all these leicaleaks are not only wrong, but spread by Leica itself as a super-teaser that will melt away when the 11th will arrive and a product that is closer to the potential buyer expectations will be presented.

I am now thinking that the possibility of an APS-C mirrorless with M-mount and EVF could be believable. At $3.5k, it'd be 3x more expensive than Nex7 and X-E1, but it'd be a Leica... not a good reason to get it from my perspective, but maybe a good one for others.
