Canon's flash control language hasn't changed since the 300D, so any of these should support their full feature set on the 300D.

I have a Nissin Di866, and it works fine on my 300D, the only issue is that it doesn't seem to support 30 foot (over-long) remote TTL cables very well, but you can't ask for everything.

If you want to use the remote flash in slave mode, load the undutchables firmware, which gives you flash exposure comp.

If memory serves me right, there were some issues with the 300D and the Canon EX flashes.  Due to the fact that Canon had simply disabled some of the features in-camera, the 300D never worked exactly as all other dSLRs.  I will search and see if I can find something on that.

I guess some of the older flash models did not offer manual flash compensation and since the 300D had no FEC, that was a problem.

My skills are really basic so I don't really totally understand what that thread saying...:)

But should major functions of flash such as master , slave, room, wireless, compensation etc all work ?

Thanks,

John

My 300D works fine with the 430EX II

The 430EX II is roughly the same vintage as the 580EX II, my guess is it will work just fine. The only thing is the 300D does not support changing flash settings via menus, you'll need to do that from the flash.

Edit: I see you're asking about a non-OEM flash but my opinion is the same, the 300D works fine with newer Canon flashes and most, if not all, of the Chinese knock-offs are simply reverse-engineered Canon copies.
