Re: Ducklings under-wing

Very cute and nice rich colors.

Coincidentally, when I was walking over to the gym this PM, I witnessed a four-lane street crossing by a Mallard and 10 chicks.  Mom walked up to the curb, looked both ways and headed across with all ten in tow while traffic stopped.  All but #10 made it over the opposite curb the first try.  After about five tries, I started to help it, but on the sixth try he made it up and all ten went on their merry way

Non-Sony systems have always been welcome here.

That's a fine set of photos - nice mix of close-up and environment.  Looks like you've been around the globe!  That Leopard is pretty brave dining around all those quills.  Great colors and sharp focus on all.  Nice shootin!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing some of these fantastic and unique shots with us. Great action shots and very rich colors.

I hope you continue to visit our weekly wildlife threads here. Anyone who can take such wonderful photos -- even while being "handicapped" with a non-Sony camera -- is always welcome!

Re: Florida - BIFs and swamp waders

Very nice set Justin, that shot of the Cattle Egret is pretty cool looking, and the young GBH sure looks scruffy. And as always very crisp detailed shots.

Re: **weekly wildlife 5/19-5/26**

Thanks Zackie,

It was fun trip, that is somewhat close to home (nine hour drive). My 4 year old daughter fell in love with the area after watching this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQurIB4djbU and she got to pick the family vacation this year. I love photographing the big boys and girls; however, its requires more work and money than the owls.

Re: **weekly wildlife 5/19-5/26**

Thanks Ed,

Yellowstone like Banff/K-Country (near my home) can provides lots of photo opportunities and be frustrating at the same time. It was a great trip that my four year-old daughter recommended after she fell in love with after watching this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQurIB4djbU. We didn't take any guided tours just a bit of research and finding the long lenses on the roadways.

Re: I have Ants

Nice shots, it's funny but like Justin said after you look at them you start to feel something crawling on you, but when you look down nothing is there.

Very nice detailed shots Ed, always love your Mantis shots, and it is hard to believe that those baby birds will grow up to be colorful.

Thank you, and as I was taking these pictures, ants did start crawling on me  , mainly from my hair hanging down onto other buds.  Luckily these ants are small

Gray Fox
1

Getting ready so send the A77 off to Laredo for the rear display shutting down, but here's some gray fox pictures shot last week with the A77 and Sigma 150mm macro:

As first spotted.

Coming towad me.

Still coming...

I had my dog with me, so a ten pound fox probably was better off stopping when a sixty pound dog was next to me.

A last look before running off into the brush.

Malaysian hornbills + butterfly macro

These oriental pied hornbills landed in a tree on Coral Bay Beach, Pangkor Island, Malaysia.

The photos were taken with Micro Four Thirds gear - an Olympus E-P3 camera and an M. Zuiko 75-300 II lens.

S

I photographed this butterfly today during my morning walk. The lens was an M. Zuiko 60/2.8 Macro.

Safari advice

Nice shots, Colin.

I'm doing a two-month safari later this year from Kenya to South Africa. I'm taking Micro Four Thirds gear, including a 75-300 and three primes (12/2.0, 17/1.8 and 45/1.8)

Do you have any advice that might be helpful?

I'm weighing up whether or not to take a tripod. Some people have suggested beanbags to help with shooting out the windows of safari vehicles. However, very few of the people offering advice have actually been to Africa. I'm tempted to leave as much stuff at home as I can, as I prefer to travel light, but I don't want to leave something out and regret it.

Regards,

Scott

Re: Gray Fox

Nice series Owen.  I've seen the Red Foxes around her this spring a few times, but never found which den they used, so no kits this year

That one looks young - and inquisitive.  Most of the ones I see head off in the opposite direction immediately.  Also, hard to track, so I give up easily.  That Sigma macro is VERY sharp!

Also, good to see you posting again.
