5D Mark iii Off camera Flash Wireless transmitters/ receivers

Hi All,

I want to get some off camera transmitters/ receivers for my Speedlite... I currently have a canon 430EXii but am planning on buying a new flash, perhaps a 600EX?

I have heard Pocketwizard has issues with the Canon 5D mark iii when it comes to the mini and flex? Is this still the case? Are the PW plus iii's better? Would really like something that supports TTL...

it is for use in portrait and wedding photography!

Look forward to hearing your feedback!

thanks!

I use the yongnuo 622. It has all functions like E-TTL and works with on-camera flash settings.

Another nod for the Yongnuo 622c system. Extremely easy and reliable operation at a fraction of the cost. I particularly like the "transceiver" design. The integrated transmitter/receiver allows mounting of a flash ontop the unit itself.

Maybe initially. By now PW has new firmware update that supports 5DIII directly. I use mini-TT1 (1) and flex-TT5 (2) on 580EX II and 430EX II virtually without problems (similar as 5DII).

I use the Pixel Kings w/ 5Dmk3, 430EX II and 600EX-RT.  The Yongnuo's are good from what I have read, they are King knockoffs, but not firmware upgradable.  I was concerned there might be initial issues after the new 5d3 fw 1.2.1, but all works great.  One note, you may want to consider a Yongnuo YN568EX instead of a 600EX-RT.  I need another lite and this is likely what I am going to grab.  Supports HSS.

Agreed, these 622s just work, super simple to use and inexpensive.

If you want to switch completely to 600 ex-rt you could also use the original Canon transmitter.

I have same good results with my 5D3, mini-TT1, Flex-TT5s and Canon Speedlights. Recently bought cable to remote fire 5D3 with the PocketWizards.

I'm also using the 622's with my 5D3. I haven't used them much, but when I have they worked well.

Re: 5D Mark iii Off camera Flash Wireless transmitters/ receivers

Hi All,

Thanks for the feedback, it has been very helpful!

Looks like pocketwizard burnt their finder when the 5D mark iii came out! I have noticed that both the Mini and Flex aren't fully supported with the 600EX anyone with any experience on this?

cheers

One  more thing!

Can you control the flash power remotely with the Yongnuo 622's?

As far as I understand this can be done with the Mini and Flex... If they work? Is this correctly understood?

cheers!

With PW AC-3 zone controller that sits on top of mini-1 or flex-5, you can adjust flash strengths remotely on three zones of flashes independently. If I start from scratch I may look into Phottix Odin eTTL trigger/receive seriously. I heard it works very reliably.  PW reliability is not perfect but still pretty good.

cheers!
