Re: TG-2 Review (Camerastore on Youtube)

Robert, many thanks for the link to the comparison!

While I was leaning towards the Olympus TG-2 because of the faster aperture, this camera's initial use will be daylight underwater and I prefer the Canon's picture quality(vs. the TG-1) so now I need to determine if the new Olympus model's picture quality is better than the earlier model before making a decision...fortunately I have a bit of time.

From what I've seen, TG-2's IQ appears to be the same as TG-1's.  One exception: If you're fond of in-camera HDR, TG-2 is a bit of a step back, because its HDR is limited to 3MP (compared to TG-1's 5MP).  For some reason, Olympus eliminated the 5MP setting from TG-2 altogether.

On the other hand, TG-2 fixes one big problem TG-1 has with broad daylight: If the light is bright enough, TG-1 prefers enabling the ND filter over raising the shutter speed.  This makes it difficult to shoot motion in good light.  The TG-2's aperture priority mode gives you a way to override this.

Hope this helps!

Boris

Re: TG-2 Review

I bought a TG-2 3 weeks ago for my snorkling trip to Sharm El Sheik, I also continueously expereinced Lens and screen fogging up on the inside of the camera ( with NO leakage from the seals - or none I could see ). I suppose it must be CONDENSATION from moist air sealed inside the camera ?? , (It appeared when I put the camera in the water and  It cleared up slowly while I was swimming )

I must also have got a sand grain in my camera case as the outer glass of the lens got a line scratched on it - Very disapointing that a TOUGH camera does NOT have toughened glass.

I going to send it for a glass replacement under the terms of the TOUGH statement and see if they will replace it.
