All the local fish were cheering. All depends on where you are in the food chain.

Re: Busselton Beach "WA"

Thanks for the kind words 1971_M5!  I'm a Canadian travelling abroad for the past seven years and after 5 years in New Zealand, am enjoying what Australia has to offer.  It never occurred to me to type out Western Australia, as everyone over here just calls it WA....  Having said that, isn't it fab that we have the internet available to do instant research!

Cheers, D. Hamments

Nice initiative, Rudy! In order to make it easier to be in the right time limits, maybe you could just add the dates "from .... to......" after the week? Best, Dirk

Very nicely done!  I am interested in how you set-up the background and illuminated the flowers... can you share that with us?

Quite a simple set up was used.  The camera was on a tripod with remote release and fitted with a 105 mm f2.8 macro lens.
The flowers were placed about 2-3 feet in front of a large sheet of black card.
Two flashes were used, SB24 and SB28 triggered by cheap wireless triggers.  One flash below and behind  the flowers to camera right shooting upwards towards the flowers.  One above and in front of the flowers to camera left was fitted with a DIY cardboard and gaffer tape snoot so no light fell on the background.  There was a hand held white card reflector above and in front of the flowers to camera right which added some diffuse light and softened the shadows, but not by much as the intention was to create fairly strong shadows.
Exposure built up starting with back light, then front light and finally fill card.
Raw processed in Lightroom 4.4 with some final editing in Photoshop Elements.

I interrupted his snacking and think the look of his eyes show that.  Was a drive by shooting so not much freedom for comp as I had to backup down the Trans Canada highway.  But I like it.

Re: Homework

Renato does not play fair bringing his daughter into the contest!  And in black and white as well. There should be a separate On Display Forum for these shots.  Goes without saying--not too bad.

Re: “Photo of the Week” thread – (week #1)

Hi everyone:

Just to clarify the timing of posts....  please post your best image from this past week, not your best image from this coming week. Your best image from this coming week you will post on or after next Friday. Clear as mud

Confused, some members entries have been taken this week also when is it the latest we can vote?

Good luck to members entering steve

Hi Steve:

Thanks for jumping into the breach, work has called my a way from my machine for a while.

Item #1: Regarding the timing of posts.... Yes, images posted should be from the week that ended last Friday. Images taken in this current week will be posted on after this coming. However, for now it doesn't matter, we're not too strict as we're just starting and still working the bugs out of the format.

For week #2, I will be listing the actual dates, for example I will write, "Please post images that were shot from Friday May 3 to Thursday May 9, 2013."

Item #2: End of voting. Voting should end at 12:00 noon Thursday GMT -4.00. I will then count up the votes and make known the Photo of the Week and the two runners up. They will then have a few hours to bask in the glory on Thursday before we start a new round first thing Friday morning.

Cheers,

Rudy
