Used Pentax DA50-135mm

This morning went to try this used lens. The physique still looks good. The rubber is still firm, some graying parts but still not bad. The optic is still very good. Body very good, no dents no chips whatsoever.

Tested it on my K-01 mostly at f2.8s, all in jpegs. I did see some not sharp, some very sharp. But then all those f2.8s that are not sharp when sharpened in PS using "unsharp Mask" level 100s and radius 5 turned out so good.

Below are the shots.

I think the lens nailed this focus. No sharpening. jpeg straight.

A centre cropped image.

Unsharp Mask in PS @ Level 100, Radius 5. Very good indeed I think.

There are chromatic aberrations but it's not bothersome.

So do you think this is a good lens? Owner is asking for est. US$750. Box, pouch, complete.

Need your kindest comment and reply.

Thxs all.

The saxophone is a very interesting machine, but I'm more interested in music.

Re: Used Pentax DA50-135mm

I have the lens and I am very happy with it. It would have been better if you showed pictures without sharpening though. 135 at 2.8 is the worst side of this lens but I think it looks pretty good at the examples you have. What you should know is that I had trubbel with backfocus and had  to set focus adjustment in the camera in order to get the lens to work perfect.  The issue with older 50-135 is SDM failiure. Having said that here in Sweden it is very seldom one se high quality pentax lens om the secion hand market. People seems to stick with them.  Good luck

Is there a newer 50-135mm SDM? I didn't know that. What 's the difference?

Re: Used Pentax DA50-135mm

The rumour is that at some point in the production of 50-135mm they improved the SDM build QC (or design).  Mine was probably manufactured in 2011 and has not displayed any SDM issues.  It does require a +9 autofocus adjust on the camera body it currently occupies but it is an excellent lens.  The adobe correction for DA* 50-135mm f/2.8 is top notch as well.
