Email and windows 7

When I upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 Ultimate I installed Thunderbird as my email software.

I do not like it at all. Outlook Express runs rings around it.

Can anyone give me a good alternate to Thunderbird; one that you yourself are using?

Thank you,

Hola Philip (also from Andalucia)!

I use Thunderbird and it is, imho, excellent PROVIDED you set it up correctly.  I can only assume you have not done that as once accomplished, it replicates exactly all the mail and folders on all my online mail accounts (so as I opted to download but as copies, leaving mail in their online folders, it produces a secure backup procedure).  Have never been more satisfied with an e-mail client - and I used both Outlook and OE for many years, with Mailwasher as the barrier.

Check your Thunderbird setup - if you spend a little time doing that I am sure you will find your observations are based on not so doing.

+1.  Totally agree.

I used Outlook Express when I was running WinXP.   When I moved to Vista and Win7 I started to use Thunderbird and in my view, it's a lot better than Outlook Express.

Thunderbird can:

  • Setup all the same folders that Outlook Express can.
  • It has a user profile folder that holds everything.  That user profile folder is easy to setup in any partition or hard drive.  My Thunderbird user profile is on my data hard drive so when I do a data backup, I also backup all of my emails, contacts, and settings.

The worst thing it did was update itself with a new version and doing so erased all the information that I had saved in the folders that I created.  It left the folders but they were empty.

Not sure why that happened to you but I've done every Thunderbird update for years on both my laptop and tower PCs and never lost a single file in any folder.

Sorry for your troubles,

Re: Email and windows 7

Without logical explanation I was losing emails from a folder of ‘saved emails’ with Thunderbird so I made the switch to ‘eM Client.’

The free edition only permits 2 email addresses, so if you haven’t got the problem of multiple email addresses, this is not an issue.

Very easy to configure and make it look how you want it to look. Best email client I have found, ever.

Me neither.  Cannot understand that unless one of the settings is not correctly setup?  Mine has been working faultlessly for yonks and with 4 e-mail accounts online.  My updates are done automatically too for Thunderbird.

Why not Windows Live Mail?  Works as good or better than Outlook Express and has spell check.  Seems just fine on my Desktop and Laptop using Windows 7 with Windows Pro 64 on Desktop and Home Premium 32 on Laptop.  Seems that anything remotely related to Windows on this forum is a no no.....perhaps with good reason but still used by millions.
