Re: Great Blue Heron and Cormorant (Full Body)

I wish the herons around here were that tame, 560mm isn't even close to filling the frame!

Nice captures

Australian mix

It's been a few months since I've been out shooting birds, so this week I just have a few odds and ends from various camera/lens combos spanning a couple of months.

Here is a Little Wattlebird.
I caught this one yesterday. I was at a family get-together here in Sydney and had taken my E-5 and 12-60mm for family shots, and luckily I had tossed the little 40-150mm into my bag just in case . . .

A Crested Pigeon from a few months back.
A regular visitor to my garden who doesn't mind posing for the camera

Canon 5D3 +  OM Zuiko 300mm f/4.5

My local flock of Sulphur-crested Cockatoos . On the ground at close range. I was in my backyard sitting behind a retaining wall  for this shot, putting the camera at the same level as the birds

5D3 EF 24-105mm f/4

A Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo - Largest of the Australian parrots.

I still don't have a good shot of this bird. Seems that I don't have a camera or (as in this case) the right one for the job when I spot one of these birds.
A tight crop that came out OK after a bit of PP work

Canon 5D3, EF 24-105mm f/4

And  a White-faced Heron,  taken with the E-5 and ZD300mm .

Re: Green-crowned Brilliant at a feeder

Nice capture, so is the shutter speed you usually use, and do you think that is the slowest one can go? I just put my hummingbird feeder up today.

Re: Green-crowned Brilliant shutter speed

Thanks Brad.  I'm certainly no expert.  Maybe someone else can give advice here.  I was hand-holding in A mode, so I set aperature to f/4 for the DOF I wanted and let the camera pick shutter speed.  I have some shots at a slower speed with more wing blur, but the birds stay remarkably still so their bodies are sharp.
