Don`t dream too much! Canon SX60 HS will have the same 50x zoom, same LCD and EVF; only improuvement will be Digic 6 with the capability of movie 1080 60i (I don`t think they will upgrade to 60p)

The lens is the same for 2 generation...so no improvement as I said before and the fact it will be ready in september is a major draw-back because all of us want a new camera in summer.......in september all the vacantion are over. That`s why a lot of people buy others bridges camera because they want la last model on marke for vacantion. In summer, SX50 HS or SX60 HS are allready old cameras. I think the marketing director on Canon...is a little old for this times and he must be replaced by a smarter guy wich see better the needs of clients

I hope the new things is not only Digic 6.

otherwise it is not fun. and many people will not buy/ upgrade.

I hope they also give faster lens too (SX40HS has faster lens) and wider 24mm

and also 900K display, better battery life. and reduce other cons

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canon-powershot-sx50-hs/11

regarding the release schedule. I agree that Canon need to release it earlier

But do not release unfinished cameras.

Why improved video with a manual zoom?

Radbul wrote:

No. Why? I just gave an example of better solutions in other brands. i.e.: much better Electronic viewfinder in Panasonic, manual zoom&focus solutions in Fuji, recording frame rate in Sony...etc. to give potential reader better perspective.

Not sure why you would want the improved video specs and then ask for a manual zoom like is on the fuji. I used the fuji and unless you were on a fairly substantial tripod, the manual zoom was a 'motion monster' for video. Even slight zooming caused movement on the video being shot, and I am a decent handholding guy after years with a DSLR.
If it was just for photos I would be all about the manual zoom too!

I agree that it is difficult to manual zoom on video.

BTW the DIGIC 6 improve in many parts including the video too

I'm very curious as well. I can't find anything out about the successor to SX50HS. You think if it comes in September we should find at least some rumours.

I would like wifi and definitely gps or the option to add it.

I think the worst thing is the chroma when zoomed to1200mm!!! The sensor is already the best out there (I tried out many superzooms in the last weeks) But shooting high contrast scenes in sunlight (Gulls, swan etc. on a lake) is horrible. Chroma in all colours! Please fix this!!! And not only with the jpeg engine.

I want an SX50 so bad I can taste it, but I'm dragging my heels in anticipation of a new release coming soon.  I was disappointed when Sept came and went without an announcement.  What I really hope to see in the SX50 successor is GPS, WiFi, and a true panorama mode like Sony offers.  With those additions, this would be my perfect camera.

Hi Daid1438 and welcome to the forum. Have a look at the following thread and see if it could possibly allay at least one of your concerns (panoramas.)

I'm also really excited about the SX50HS. the thing that got me interested about the camera was Lilian Stokes article about bird photography with the SX50 HS.

http://stokesbirdingblog.blogspot.com/2013/02/canon-sx-50-hs-for-bird-photography-i.html

Since this is the first camera with such a high telephoto lens -- that also gives you clean usable pics at the telephoto end, i thought the successor must be worth looking into. of course, it would have a Digic 6 processor. it may have better video and focusing speeds. But in my opinion, the real (and obvious) forte of this camera is it's ability to take clean telephoto shots. i think canon should yield a bit on the wide-angle end and gain more lens power on the telephoto end (for eg. 28 - 1400 mm) I'm sure a good percentage of people interested in birding and wild life photography would want to have such a camera as at least their secondary camera.

I just sold my SX50 in anticipation of the SX60 and am missing it already!

I only hope the SX60 does have 1080p/60fps video - that's the main reason

for the upgrade.

I would upgrade for that reason alone.  What are you going to do if the SX60 doesn't materialize?

Not more zooming up, but maybe lower on the short side

I for one would not be happy with the loss of a 10° angle of view going from 24 mm (84° view) to 28mm (74° view). Checking my database of SX50 EXIF data, I see I use that area of the zoom 19% of the time. Of course I also like the long end of the lens as I use 1200mm (2° view) 34% of the time. That leaves only 47% for the whole rest of the zoom. Maybe I'm just drawn to extremes. On my Full Frame Canon, I love using 12mm (124° view) on my rectilinear Sigma 12-24 wide angle lens.

Re: Not more zooming up, but maybe lower on the short side

Well, we should know very soon. The Canon SX50 has such a great zoom lens that I'm absolutely hoping for more of the same. The SX50, however, is weak on features. The burst is slow, there is no in camera panorama and no HS HD video. I bought my SX50 for the great zoom lens and have not been disappointed. However, I'd sure like to see some improvement in other areas, EVF, burst speed, panorama, High Speed video, etc.

Hello all, In Canon SX50 successor (Canon SX60) a must be in my opinion: )Panasonic Lumix FZ200's EVF has a much higher 1.3 million dot resolution- EVF resolution doubled vs SX50 (at least 400,000pixels resolution or better i.e.: - Recording Full HD with 30fps(finally as 23.9fps now is too stuttery and years behind competition ), 720p with 60fps. (and super speed mode 640x420@120fps, 320x200@300fps would be nice as well but not essential) - Make it faster: at least 2fps with AF(also increase to 4fps with AF/AE lock) It would be really good to have(if not in SX60 then definitively as must be in it's successor Canon SX70 model): - Faster AF with more AF points. - Manual focus ring (like in Fujifilem HS50EXR again nice DSLR feel) - Manual zoom (apart from automatic as an option i.e.: Fujifilem HS50EXR nice DSLR feel) - SD card UHS I standard support.(or maybe even UHS II)
- USB 3.0 support. - Screen 3" with 1,040,000 resolution. - ISO 50-12800 also better in low light (maybe time to use bigger sensor? like 1/8" or 1/1.7") - Optical zoom x60 20mm-1200mm or 22mm-1320mm or 24mm-1440mm Not neccesary but would be nice: - More efficient/more voluminous battery or maybe better 4xAA(as it used to be in SX1 and earlier SX20) - Battery charging through USB 3.0. - Record RAW video in stereo. Canon could actually develop (along SX60) a more "posh" hybrid model SX2 (similar to SX1 few years ago) more expensive but with more options and better materials used. - price - it can be the same or even more expensive than SX50(but no more than 50%) - - weight, it can be heavier than SX50(but no more than 30%) - dimensions, it can be larger than SX50(but no more than 30%) - resolution, no need to rise above 12.1megapixels (4000x3000) yet but don't downgrade either. I do not care so much about: - Hot shue. - RAW/RAW+JPEG/HDR mode. - amazing articulated vari-angle screen Please do keep at all costs: - Bring back: filters fit 58mm possibility (like in: SX40, SX1, SI5 and earlier models - not documented by Canon but all 58mm filters could be mounted without buying any adaptors) - Flash range 6m or more. - Better weather sealing. - Better panorama/360 degree stitch mode. - Remote control (like in SX1) - Printed user guide. - 2x SD card slots (mode to record movie on one and save photos on other, mirror mode etc.) - GPS chip. - SD card slots accessible while on tripod. All the best

Hello everyone guys, this time I follow this forum, as much as my English is bad! I could not help commenting a chance ... I thought a possibility of doing with a Canon 24-1800mm zoom with maximum aperture of 1.8-6.4 and a sensor close to the full

I can not help commenting that the canon camera is awesome! It's impressive, had a SX240, but had the misfortune replace it with a Panasonic FZ150, but as they say in the hands of a good photographer who makes a hell of photo and not the machine that makes a great photo.

Thank yours, guys!

Re: Very curious about the successor to SX50HS (SX60HS?)

Hi Byrna, I was reading the various threads here at dpreview.com and when I came across yours I had to register so I could reply.

I just came back from Best Buy with my latest purchase which was the Canon SX60 HS.  I am so glad I went to check out the latest digital point & shoot cameras because I was thinking about making a purchase from an online merchant for either the SX50 or the SX60 without ever holding either of them in my hands.  Fortunately I continued to research the two camera's and found out that Best Buy was having a sale on the SX60.  The price was to attractive to pass up so off I went.

I was so glad the way things turned out because the difference between the sx50 and sx60 was like night and day.  The design and ergonomics of the sx60 is incredible and is a huge improvement over the sx50.  I haven't had a chance to take any pictures as yet but just on my first impression I know I made the right decision.  It's no wonder why I see so many used sx50's for sale as the sx60 is simply a much better.

If you have a chance to get to s camera shop or a store like Best buy check out the camera's for yourself I know you won't believe how different the two camera's are and would be quite surprised if you don't agree.

Best of luck, Modsquad.
