Closet focal length to 28mm for street: 22 or 31?

Hello!

I'm wondering which focal length is closet to 28mm for street applications: 22mm or 31?

I understand that there is no objective basis for asserting one over the other.

I'm just looking for personal preferences and why.

On the surface of it, your question doesn't make much sense as the answer is obvious, unless you mean 'What focal length produces an equivalent FoV closest to a 28mm EFoV on the GXR with M-module?'

That would be 18mm, but I prefer a 21mm. Why? I like the narrower FoV.

31 is closer to 28 no matter for what purpose you use it.

or are you asking something else?

the pairing and stepping of lenses has always been an interesting challenge for me. For many years I preferred 24-35-50 over other combinations. I also enjoy 40 mm a lot. But once I had a 40, both 35 and 50 turned out to be a bit redundant for my use, and I preferred 21 and 28 to go with 40.

i think with digital, cropping is much easier than with film as one has much more control over the post processing,  and tightening a composition without losing image quality is easier with larger sensor cameras. If you prefer loose style shooting, a larger field of view may be more useful.

I agree with Godfrey, a 21mm lens seems to be just right on the GXR, plus if you are using a Voit 21 f4.0 or the Zeiss 21 4.5 they are so tiny to make it a very nice package to walk around with.
