NX 50-200 OIS lens making sounds during OIS?

Is anyone else getting noises from their lens when it's doing stabilization? I get a stream of rapid, soft clicks and pops when I turn on OIS (and only when I turn on OIS). It's loud enough to be recorded in video mode, and sounds worrisome as I use it!

The lens is brand new, and my kit lens does not have this problem.

Do you mind recording, and uploading the sound for us to hear?
Generally speaking OIS systems will make some degree of noise upon activation of the system when it floats the lens element, so its fairly normal. I guess you'll need to leave the OIS on before you shoot?

My 50-200 lens does make a faint mechanical noise sometimes, perhaps because of OIS. I have noticed, though, that it stops when the shutter is half-pressed. Is that the case with yours?

I do have an 50-200 OiS I from my NX10 and it as well has that noise when OiS is active. You can test that by switching OiS off.

As I am not really using anything with focal length beyond the 85mm it did not bother me to much, but is definitely loud enought to be heard easily.

It seems as well that the 50-200 suffers from quality issues with some being good and some.. well...

That description of the noise seems to fit more with continuous auto-focus. The OIS does also make noise though.  I just tested mine and could hear slight clunking noises if I held the camera up to my ear and moved it other than gently.  The noises are very faint and I couldn't hear them when holding the camera in normal shooting position with eye up to the viewfinder (nx10).  I'm sure they'd be audible on video recordings but I don't use the camera for that purpose.

The 18-200 was designed to be quieter for video use, hence its much higher price.  Perhaps someone who has one can comment on whether it really is quieter.

Apart from the Samsung 18-55 and 50-200, the only other OIS lenses I have owned are the Nikon 55-200VR and 70-300VR.  The 55-200 was just audible but not bothersome.  The 70-300 was noticeably clunky, probably due to the greater weight of its moving element/s.  It was quite audible during normal use.  At first I thought mine was defective and questions are often asked about it in the Nikon lens forum.  In fact it was quite normal and of no consequence.

Yes, as far as I can tell, it`s normal with this lens. You`re right about OIS being the culprit. Now that you mention it, I haven`t noticed it with kit lens. Since I`m not taking much video, it doesn`t bother me, but obviously can be an issue for some. Surprisingly, I didn`t see it mentioned in any reviews of this lens.

I dont have the 50-200mm to compare, but am an owner of the 18-200mm which is reasonably quite and certainly hasn't warrented my attention to any noise. I will also add that the 18-200mm has always been advertised by Samsung to be 'optimised' for video referencing quite autofocus. I would guess that would indicate its difference from the 50-200mm.
