Starry Night
4

First one with FDn 24 2.8. Others with SEL16.

CC Welcome. Tough shooting a lighthouse, ambient light is a bit of an issue obviously!

Anyways this is the Portland Headlight Lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Still light around the area as its pretty close to Portland but still able to get some decent star shots.

Thanks! I think it was probably my favorite too. Only problem was all of the stars were on that side of the binocular thing and there was a street light below it. That accounts for the light pollution filling in from the bottom.

I love the first one. Portland Head is a great/special photo location. I had been going up there since I was a kid and mean to go back with my current level of skill and see what I could do. Haven't been back since 1991.

Maine is a beautiful state full of great outdoor locations not to speak of the seafood.

Re: Starry Night

All were great, but the 1st one is my favorite.  I don't know if that is moonlight hitting the left side of the lighthouse, but wonderful job composing the shot.

Thanks. Yes it is the moon it was very bright and just off to the left. I actually cropped out some lens flare in that shot. It was quite scary actually. I had to hop a fence and climb down a steep incline with some snow and razor bushes. Below that was jagged rocks and crashing waves. Luckily I brought a flashlight so I could kind of see where I was going. The other scary part was that I was basically trespassing, although I had asked a local police officer if it was alright for me to be down there. (He said he wouldn't tell anyone.) But yes it certainly turned out pretty cool and I am glad I took the risk!

Re: Starry Night

Its kind of tough to see depth here but that is a bit lower. See the red X in the bottom middle? that's about where I went after hopping that fence that makes the white V to get that up looking shot at the tower.
