Canon SX30 - well he did his job! Meteor, or ...?

Upon exiting the shopping, I noticed something unusual in the sky. My Canon SX30 is always with me and never separated. Because of these surprises. And well he did his job! Meteor, or .... ?
I now have a Canon SX50. We expect the new unusual encounters!

If these pictures were taken last Friday (March 22) at the US east coast it could have been a meteor:

But I see you shot these pics on March 1 and probably not in the US

Right: it was taken in Croatia, probably in Zagreb: just watch the mall name in the first shot!

From your EXIF data: first image at 2013:03:01 18:50:49, second image (1st crop) 18 seconds later at 18:51:07, third image 13 seconds later at 18:51:20 and final image 23 seconds later at 18:51:43. At 54 seconds total from first image to last I'd say that if it was a meteor it would have been the slowest on record. From the sky glow and elevation it's likely a distant jet and its contrail still in sunlight just after sundown. Wish I had a more exciting diagnosis...

Hmmm... I confess that was also my first thought, but magnifying the images as much as possible I didn't see even a trace of something like an aircraft; moreover, the contrails (usually 2 or 4, sometimes 3) are never merged together in such a short distance; OK, they could be seen as a single line when the aircraft is far away and the observer is in a particular angle, but neither applies here.

On the other hand, your remark is pertinent: the object seems far too slow for a meteor and far too fast for a cloud (another opinion); the speed of an airliner would perfectly fit!

I don't know, probably you're right after all...

All the best,

Augustin

Thank you very much for appreciation!

As you saw, there was an opinion it could have been an airliner: you know the exact location of the photo, please start Flightradar (flightradar24.com) and go to playback, indicating the hour (don't forget the correction, in Romania is -2 hours). If you get there an airliner, please tell us, if not... the puzzle remains...

All the best,

Augustin
