Suggested improvements for SPP

1. For each adjustment bar, have independent manual and auto radio buttons for each adjustment. For example, set brightness to auto while keeping shadows and fill light fixed.
2. Levels command with similar adjustments found in the Photoshop levels command.

I think these improvements will improve everyone's workflow as they may find using Photoshop only for levels adjustments.

A unified edit window so one click on the image brings it up

Use the GPU for editing and file export

Brushes (too much to ask, probably)

Presets to get you in the ball-park

Enable the magnification function at all times - it should never be grayed out

No need to save edits to a file - once you work on it, those should automatically be saved

Re: Suggested improvements for SPP

Let me adjust noise reduction before preview is complete without crashing

Show before after somehow.

Provide banding reduction and label it accordingly.

Add banding and posterization warning.

Add noise and grain control for separate layers in monochrome.

Let me use the color picker in Foveon Blue color mode.

At least the labeling of the menues and buttons could be a little bit brighter.

1. Better jpeg conversion

2. Crop and rotate tools

1. Support GPU Processing

2. Customizable UI

3. Adjustment Panel to be adjusted to the side (ideal in multi monitor environments where you have space to the side but not to the bottom (if all the panels are extended you cannot see everything))

4. Better multi CPU/core support

Let us fully open the custom settings dropdown menu and let us sort, group and exchange the custom settings.

Let the settings be stored in a human readable text file.

  1. Crop
  2. Rotate
  3. Ability to darken blacks (neg fill light doesn't do it for me)
  4. Stop causing my computer to groan loudly.

Quick question on printing

How many people here print directly from SPP?

2. Rotate is possible at 90° steps.

3. How much darker do you want the blacks? Are you using the Shadow slider now?

Thanks, but just for convenience, I would like to be able to tweak and straighten slightly tilted horizons within SPP without exporting TIFFs to Photoshop Elements.

I find that on many shots I am converting to 16-bit TIFF, taking them into Lightroom and then doing nothing other than taking the 'Blacks" slider dowm to the -20 to -30 range in the Develop module. It gives a kind of contrast boost, but leaves 90% of the pixels unchanged.

Using Shadow and negative Fill Light - in any combination - I can't find an equivalent workflow to replicate that effect in SPP (yet). I am open to suggestions, however.

Re: Quick question on printing

I print directly from SPP.

FWIW, the two 'features' I wish were in SPP are straighten/trim tool and dust spot tool.

Best regards, Sandy

To speed up

Allow user defined Scratch Disk like in Photoshop.  It would then be possible to use a Ramdisk as scratch disk.

Thumbnails

A 1 step top create thumbnails pics to make it easier to select pics from Windows Explorer

or

create an add-on to Explorer to see imbedded JPG from raw (like Arcsoft raw viewer)

You can have Explorer preview of x3f and many other formats with Fastpictureviewer's Codec Pack.

Definitely. As a side effect of saving the crop area in the X3F file, the camera could also give hints for cropping (after a firmware upgrade) - for example:

3:2, 4:3, 1:1, 16:9, Center (half size)
