Portrait NX 45mm 1.8 V.S. NX 30mm V.S. Minolta 50mm

here comes my portrait-dummy. first three all lenses at f2

30mm f2 NX @ f2

45mm f1.8 @ f2

the minolta is still bleeding at f2, the new NX lenses aren't. At f2.8 the bleeding is stoping and the picture is getting crisp. so f2.8 is my minolta 50mm most wanted aperture - sweetspot is more like f5.6 but I need the light.

here 50mm vs 45mm at f2.8, this time both at iso800 1/30

NX 45mm f1.8 @ f2.8

the 45mm seems to catch a bit more light at 2.8. the minolta has more center-sharpness.

for 1/4 of the price you miss AF and get a much heavier lens. which is crispy in the center starting from f2.8 and softer than the 30/45NX in the edges and at wide.

and you get a lot of fun - that's how I see it

(if you look at my old review , you see that the legacys are better than the 30mm at f2.8, before that the 30mm is superior. the samyang beats them all at wide)

end of the line: I guess the 45mm indeed is a great lens, its value@price is good, it's LIGHT, small and sharp. get it if you need a standard-portrait with AF and have the money.

But I still think the 30mm can do a lot the 45mm can and more (like indoor, group shots, landscape). And the NEX+35mm wins against the NX+45mm.

somehow my subtext of the minolta pictures got lost. and I timed out for editing. hate that

last shot of the first three compared: minolta MD 50mm f1.4 @ f2

last shot of the second two compared same @ f2.8

I'm quite unimpressed by the performance of the 45mm from your test shots. the 30mm has almost the same shallowness of dof, and seems a bit sharper (for what can be seen from your pictures). I was hoping in a much better dof effect compared to 30mm.

consider that I had to move to the dummy with the 30mm - if I had stayed on the same position, the bokeh would have been considerably less on the 30mm. In the field it could be sometimes impossible to move towards the subject. Plus the effect would be stronger if the distance to the backround would have been bigger, right?

But I do agree, as I said - for now I stay with the 30mm + the manual 50mm MD.

Here are some of my shoots.

I'm quite happy with this lens, I can do some picture that I cannot do with my minolta MD because this one has autofocus and it's quite confortable :

hmmmm.... the Minolta does not appear to be any sharper than the 2 NX lenses at the center. it is sharp, but not sharper. I have no experience with the Samyang, so I can't comment on that. if you have a copy, it would be great if you could show some comparisons with that lens as well.

At f2? no, NX wins

at f2.8, yes a little at 100%

Had the samyang just for a couple of weeks, to heavy + to big and difficult to use. but nice glass!
