60mm Macro and Ringflash make a great impromptu portriat set up
2

I got my elinchrom ringflash today so I attacked all members of the household - Oscar and Lucy were being soldiers in cooking utensils!
I really like the light that this gives - next task is to find a way to make it more comfortable to handhold with the ringlight attached....

Anyway, here he is - SOOC jpeg, natural mode

No thanks. I'll stick with my Metz 15 MS-1 macro flash at 1/3 the price and 1/8 the weight.

I do not like the doughnut catch-lights ring flashes produce in the eyes of subjects.

Weird my Metz and elinchrom were within 10 or 20% in terms of cost (both about £300), the weight and ergonomics definitely favour the metz though gas long as your lens is the right size filter thread).

Yep, face and skin specialists have been using such a setup for yonkers to take photos of acne, moles, hair, scar and other abnormalities.

Great light.

I use a 46mm-52mm step up ring and then use the supplied Metz 52mm attachment to the flash.

I was unfamiliar with elinchrom and looked it up on B&H and found this:

Elinchrom RQ Ringflash

at $1,199.99. But perhaps you meant this:

Elinchrom Ranger Quadra Ringflash ECO

at $524.95, and which is only 4x as heavy. The Metz price is $466.69 which is about what I paid for it nine months ago..

Re: 60mm Macro and Ringflash make a great impromptu portriat set up

Yep, that's the one I got my Metz in 2009 I think and it actually cost slightly more than I paid for the Elinchrom yesterday.  The weight is actually a lot more as the electronics and battery are in a separate box (and if I didnt already have those the cost would be a lot higher too!)

The elinchrom system is actually portable battery powered studio lighting, still not something I would take camping for the weekend!

Fair enough, they do turn to points as you move further away, the lihht is great though (catch light shape excluded)

yes they have! The weird thing for me was that both my children wanted me to take their picture with it though.
