Capture NX2 2.4.0 stopped working in Win7 64 bit

I've been using Capture NX2 in Windows 7 pro 64bit since ver. 2.3.0 without any problem.

Currently I was using ver 2.4.0 without any glitch. After the February 2013 month Windows security patches, Capture NX2 stopped working. When you try to open CaptureNX2 it flashes for a few seconds the preliminary info window but the program doesn't start.

I've uninstalled all Nikon programs, cleaned the Register with Ccleaner, rebooted and reinstaled the boxed original version (2.2.1). I've updated, over the clean instalation, every sucesive version. The program works fine in all versions until ver 2.2.8 inclusive (all 32 bit). After ver 2.3.0, already a 64 bit compatible version, the program fails.

Anyone have a suggestion?

I'm running NX2 2.4.1 and up-to-date Win7-64 with no issues.

After it fails to start, do you see it in the task manager?

In that fails, I fear a bad registry entry which will be near impossible to track down. AFAIK, Nikon have never produced any tools for checking/fixing registry prerequisites for their software. So then you're looking at a clean Windows install.

Installing 2.3.0 and then 2.4.1 definitely works on a clean system (Win 7 64-bit). I have done it twice in the past few weeks.

I'll try the clean install of ver.  2.3.0 and see what happen.

I've have a busy week, so I can't try until the week end.

I feel your pain, multiple times
