I just purchased this camera a couple days ago because I really wanted a digital camera for when we go on vacation. We're leaving Thursday. It came down to the Kodak DC3400 and Olympus D490Z. Each are 2 megapixel cameras. The Kodak has 2X zoom and Olympus has 3X. The Kodak was $50 cheaper and had USB while the Olympus did not. But I found a deal at Best Buy where you got a free USB Reader/Writer by mail if you purchased the Olympus. That took care of my biggest hesitation in buying this camera. Not to mention the $100 Best Buy gift card my wife got from work. That made it very affordable for us.
I like the QuickTime movie option with the Olympus. It doesn't have sound, but should be fun to play around with once I learn how to do it. The pictures we have taken so far are excellent and that's in High Quality mode. I haven't taken any in Super High Quality JPEG mode or Super High Quality TIFF mode yet.
I'm pretty much a novice at photography and this camera is very easy to use and takes very good pictures even without adjusting any settings. It's a great point-and-shoot camera, but it has a fair amount of features to go along with it that I still need to learn about.
Another positive is that the lens cover is part of the camera instead of some flimsy thing on a string like the Kodak DC3400 has.
Problems:
No problems so far. I've taken about 60 pictures.
