Konica KD-300 Zoom review
First digital camera I've used. I wanted a small 3+Mp camera that used SD/MMC storage so I can swap cards with Palm PDA. Pleased so far. Easy to use, seems quick to start up and store images except very large file TIFFs which I've used rarely. Very small and light. Other reviewers commented on soft focus in low light - almost certainly due to handshake. Sharp pictures, and excellent colours, obtained in low light if tripod or stand used with long exposure, no flash and timed shutter release. I'm still experimenting with manual settings.
TV out is nice and works well.
USB card reader is generally handy, can be used as storage/transport medium for other files and apparently works with Mac and native windows drivers above Win 98 - very useful if travelling and using other PCs to store/send images.
Lens motors a little noisy on start up.
LCD display freezes for a second just before exposure - not good for moving images, but good results with LCD off and using viewfinder to follow moving subject.
Flash not very powerful, only good for 'snaps', background may be dark and pictures are a bit disappointing, combination long exposure and fill-in flash could be useful for this.
Battery life short, but just about OK for a days tourism, so 2nd battery very useful if expensive. Charge prob saved by turning camera off, working without LCD and no auto flash.
Supplied setup only allows battery charge when in camera so cant charge one while using other, but I see chargers available at http://www.eurobatterie.com/sitepages/camcorder_chargers.asp or http://www.camcorder-battery.org/KONICA/DR-LB1.HTM
