Pentax Optio 230 review

I got this camera 1 month ago and very happy so far. Paid around $265 us (including an extra 128mb CF card). I was looking for good quality inexpensive point and shoot lightweight camera and Optio 230 fits the bill. Shot close to 300 pix so far. Colors and resolution are very good in Auto mode for daytime shots. Indoor shots require white balance adjusted to the approriate lighting type. Macro photos turn out very clear. 180" LCD flip out allows to do good self-portraits.

LCD hard to see in bright daylight. Battery life (CR-V3) is not up to spec. Manual claims 500-650 shots, I got half of that but then the battery was used for other activities like previewing and downloading. Duracell CR-V3 is around $10us. Vendor should probably include case in the kit since the body is plastic and scratches easily.

Pentax Optio 230
2 megapixels • 1.6 screen • 38 – 114 mm (3×)
