Sony Cyber-shot DSC-U50 review

It's small. That's why I got it. I can carry it around in my pocket all the time and get pictures quickly and easily. The startup time is very fast, and it focuses reasonably quickly too. In bright daylight the picture quality is remarkable; in low light, it's pretty bad. However, it's the perfect complement to my Canon 10D, which is too large to take with me everywhere. Battery life is quite good too; uses standard AAA batteries, but it comes with some nice high-capacity NiMH batteries plus a charger.

Problems:

Sony supplies a cheap plastic lens cap that requires you to have the ridiculously long lanyard attached to it in order to keep from losing the cap. I solved the problem by replacing the lanyard with a keychain loop. Also, be aware this camera requires Memory Stick Duo ram. I picked up a 256 MB at amazon.com for $99, so they're not impossible to find. And that yields 450 pictures at the 2 megapixel resolution which is plenty.
