Canon PowerShot SD500 (Digital IXUS 700 / IXY Digital 600) review

My opinion is biased from a Canon PowerShot G2 I have been using for some years.
1. Really quick to start and shoot.
2. Small & light, but needs very careful handling. Otherwise its unprotected LCD is prone to scratch or crack.
3. Battery life is medium - especially compared to G2's excellent battery.

1. After a session with the camera full of pictures and empty battery, you take out the battery to charge it, and you cannot download the pictures taken.
2. Not having a twisting an LCD screen is a serious drawback.
3. The rate of good pictures (problems: focusing & shaken pictures) is less than expected. So take many pictures.

CONCLUSION: Each type of camera (ultra-compact, normal, super-zoom, dSLR, etc) has pros and cons. Concentrate on the type of camera and take note of the features that matter most to you (twisting LCD, optical zoom, picture quality, speed, etc). Choosing the brand/model is secondary. Even the best model of a type will not make you happy if you don't consider the features wanted.
