Konica Minolta DiMAGE A2 review

A2 is my second KM camera. I used the A200 first and found it was quite user friendly and delivered good result. After a few month's usage, I left it for my brother, and later I acquired an used A2. In general, the control is very similar to A200, excepts A2 has more control and is more feature rich. In fact, from time to time I still discovered some feature that I didn't notice before. I just wonder how the KM engineer can pack so many in so little. I find the A2 is quite capable and deliver good image except under certain situations.

Problems:

The most dislike thing about A2 is to take image with high contrast situation where often the highlight area has clipping that all the details are gone.

All I find the color a little plain (I normally take jpeg) and default to use vivid and shaper setting. The skin color is also less than real and something slightly greyish. I need to invest more time on post process with PS. Compared with my compact Panasonic FX01 which delivered more pleasing color without any PS.

On the other hand, focus is reasonably good in my opinion that I won't complain. In fact its flex focus point and continuous focusing capability is very versatile. Its shutter lag, as with most other compact, is not suitable for sports photo nor children.

Another complaint area is its flash, that the output is just too weak to be useful. It'll be necessary to invest in an external flash. I rather use a SLR to do the job instead.
