Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D (Alpha-7 Digital / Dynax 7D) review

I got one of these after going digital with the Sony A700 and to keep my film Dynax7 company and fill my Minolta collection. Surprisingly , even though I now own the A700 and A900, I still some times reach for the 7D, probably because it reminds me of a film camera in handling and produces very nice images (I like the colours too).

Its just so simple to use, everything at your finger tips. Image quality is very good for a camera of this vintage, and even produces very usable pictures at ISO800, nice.

The in camera sensor based anti shake works well (almost as well as the A700). Seems to produce better JPEGs than the A700 though.

The camera itself feels sturdy and fits my hands very nicely (I would say I have average sized hands). Its easy to handle and most controls are easily accessible.

Problems:

-This model is known for an issue called First Frame Black, where sometimes the camera locks up with a black frame. Sony is still currently supporting a fix for this known issue, so if you get a second hand 7D, get it updated.

-The rear LCD panel lacks contrast and can be difficult to see in strong sunlight.
