This is really an amazing lens. I bought this second hand which is very cheap considering it was priced very high when sold at first now you can do a real bargain if you find one in good condition like i did. Compared to the 18-55 which takes good photos already i never liked the feel of it, plastic, if using filters the front moves which is not the best perhaps if using filters. The lens is also very well built, a step up from the kit lens in all ways a bit better aperture range 4.5 vs 5.6 and offers slightly more zoom which is handy. It also has unusaly a sealed weather mount for dust and moisture so if you mount it on a camera that has also that you are all set.
The zoom ring is a bit stiff, hard to exactly pinpoint but its easier once u start move the wheel.
