Small but long - that is the DA55-300. Very useful lens, small and light to carry, but provides good images. 55-135mm range is good even wide open. 135-230mm needs to be stopped down a bit. 230-300mm wants F8 to be OK. Focus screw is long on this lens, which results in slow AF when all range from 1.4m to infinity runs. On the other hand during shooting this is not problem as AF can be very fast when focusing distance changes only by smaller increments. For example 8m>5m or 2m>3m or 10-15m it refocuses very fast. So even air-show is not a problem.
