OK lens, as long as you don't expect to much

OK budget lens for full frame, don't bother on crop. At 28mm it gives FOV of 45mm on crop. Thats just not wide enough. it has a very old IS. Image quality is not the best, but good enough as long as you won't be comparing it to lenses like 24-70 2.8. Build quality is OK, barrel will creep, but that is to be expected of most cheap lenses.

Re: OK lens, as long as you don't expect to much

barrel creep was excessive for me. every time the lens was in the vertical.  very loose clearances on the cylinders really make the lens feel sloppy in your hand. blowing sand at the beach will actually enter the barrel.

found a trade on a Sigma 17-70 for this lens and the el cheapo 18-55 kit lens and I ran with it. the sigma 17-70 works out fine with my old 40D and my not so old T2i. the build quality on the sigma lens out-classes the two Canon lenses by far. happy to no longer have this lens in my bag.
