I need a lightroom alternative for mangaing and sorting photos. It should be light and user friendly any suggestions ?

Capture One? I have not tried it myself, but heard lots of good things about it. Free trial avaliable.

Why don't you want to use lightroom?

LR is fine for light occasional editing.  Is your issue price, features, ease of use, something else?

Breeze Browser Pro is a nice alternative for light editing and file managing. Although I use Capture One Pro 7 for editing I still use the Breeze Browser system for managing files which is a tree system with storage by year and month, and even more detailed if you desire and is compatible with other photo systems such as Adobe Bridge and image viewers. Breeze Browser also offers a program called Downloader Pro which downloads your camera images, has the ability to modify the file name and stores them in the correct year and month. I've used this system for ten years with no problems.

Ifan is another alternative and is free.

I stopped using Lightroom just because of their filing system.

HDR once a week. My major issue is system requirement and ease of use. 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram .

Not sure what you mean. I have my photos organized by year then month and I use LR. What issues did you have with LR's filing system?

So why not Picasa?  Sounds perfect.   If it is only for HDR, just get a standalone program and continue to use Picasa for sorting.

Faststone - free and excellent.

I have LR but - like Picassa - I find it clumsy and a PITA with its importing and other features.  I much prefer to organise my files myself via Windoze Explorer - but Fastsone is a most useful programme - especially since it was given a major facelift.
