Canon PowerShot SX 240HS Picture quality issue

Hi!

Today I got my new camera, a Canon PowerShot SX240 HS. I actually was thinking about buying the SX260 HS but I don't need GPS.

I took some pictures with my old Olympus E-510 DSLR and the same picture with the Canon SX240 HS. I put both on Auto.

Olympus E-510

Canon SX240 HS

and again ...

Olympus E-510

Canon SX240 HS

The pictures from the Canon SX240 HS are looking brighter but overall it doesn't look good at all.

Any idea how this is? I actually hoping for at least a similar picture quality or even better. Especially there are 5 years of development between both cameras.

Or do I demand too much from the Canon camera?

Re: Canon PowerShot SX 240HS Picture quality issue

For the plant picture the Olympus fired its flash, the Canon didn't.

Exposures

Olympus 1/80 sec, f/5.6, 100 iso

Canon 1/40 sec, f/4.5, 800 iso

I suspect the same is true of the hair shot, but there's no exif data available.

I suggest you repeat the test with both cameras set the same.
