Slider44,

I like the LucisArt changes.

Another great job. What software and technique do you use?

I used Elements 6. Levels were tweaked manually, but for lighting and contrast I used the auto commands. The extraction was done with GML Matting. You can get it here (free download):

Thanx Ray, I love your work. This one is crazy nice.

But if you saaw my thanx and reply to Patsy, I'm doing this for a friend who wants his car in its native environment.

What I need to learn is the first part you use to clone out the extra cars. Or did you mask the old car and then operate on the new background?

I've owned Elements for years but seldom edit image contents. The members of this forum are so generous with time and knowledge. You all are starting me down the road of doing things that I never tried to do in Lightroom. Oh dear, my conservative friends will ask me to leave our photo club.

OOOOOps....sorry Ted
I completely removed the car and rebuilt the interior etc to remove the wall outline in the glass etc and added the back window. Removed a reflection from the door. BUT...if I had read your post properly, would have realised what was wanted...DDDHHH!!!...my fault.:-(

Best wishes

Ray

Re: How do I remove cars from background?

Ray,

No bother.  I like your work.  The car owner will have to wait until I learn how to do the great stuff you've all pointed me toward.

Now I need more hours in my day.  (thought I'd never say that after I retired.   )

This was just a snap, but there was no way to take a neutral background.

I'm mostly a LR 4 user and have Elements 11. Reducing this background clutter is beyond my skills.

Is there a way, in Elements, to clone the wall and street over the messy looking cars and trucks?

I know how to add a completely different background but I'd prefer it to look natural. And I still won't know how to fix the cars seen through the windows.

Used copy and pasting, and cloning.

Here is a LucisArt play also.

This one done with the LucisArt Plugin

Re: How are all of you handling the windshield?

Hi,

There are some excellent background changes shown in the above posts. But I am stumped as to how you are handling the windshield. Not only have you accounted for the intensity shift through the glass but you have retained the thin windshield wiper. Was it just by changing opacity, or some other way?

Thanks,

Bob Schoner

I hope that you do not mind, but I did a little custom work on the beautiful automobile before extracting and placing it on a new background.

Thanks Mike.....

I didn't read the instructions either on what the OP wanted, same as some of the others.

Again, thanks for the comp.

Mike.

Allen,

Nicely done.  I won't show your clean-up of the rust and paint.

But now that you've started, how about chopped and channeled like when I was a teenie bopper?

Re: How do I remove cars from background?

Good eye on catching the paint and chrome cleanup, but I did not get it all, as I got lazy.  However, if you compare the roof with the original, you will see that it was chopped several inches.  Channeling would require the fenders to be removed in order to clear the wheels or they would have to be relocated higher on the car.  Guess it could be done.

I saw that you had changed the roof but didn't compare with the original to see how much.

I came to the forum to get some advice on LR plug-ins.  Now that I've stayed around for a while, the heavy art work is really growing on me.  I feel like I might be a convert.  Not for my regular images, but ones like this car could be fun.  If I ever get as good as you!
