NX11 how do do a firmware update?????? (from 01.00 to 01.11).

Hi

I have an NX11 (with the original firmware version 01.00).

I see that there is a version 01.11 (says added 60mm/85mm) and 01.12 (added 45mm).

I have the new 60mm lens but i can't do x2 zoom on the ifcn - maybe i need to update my

firmware!!! Also i don't seem to get the magnification of 1:1 that it is capable of!!

Anyone else have the same issues?

If i do update my firmware... Do i extract the NX11.bin file (after unzipping etc) and put it

on an sd card - next to the drive letter? Does it take long? Any risks? Any links to videos

of this being done?

Thanks

Carl

Extract from the .zip and place it at the root of your SD card. I had a similar problem with the NX210 because I wasnt extracting it, as though it was Android.

Please be gentle, I'm very new.

Hi

Thanks for the update on the firmware (body) for the NX 11 camera.

All done ok now.

It changes all the settings back the factory settings. Takes 5 mins.

.

I now want to update the (lens) firmware for my NX camera...

I have looked everywhere for the lens firmware, but can only find it under nx10!

says the latest lens firmware is: v1.10 1.2 dated 21/4/11 (n4_lens-fw_file.eng.zip)

anyonw know if this is the latest for the NX11 model please?

thanks

Samsung have always left the lens firmware in the NX10 camera firmware page. I have emailed them about this but just get the automated response. Probably because they just do not care.

There used to be 2 versions depending which lens you have but this may have changed.

Yes, that is normal.

The NX lens firmware is not model-specific, so works on any model NX camera.  Rather than repeat it under each and every model, the download is only included under NX10.  That would be fine if explained on the web site.  Instead it is left to our clairvoyance.

That's the latest I could find.  If you unzip it, you'll find separate folders inside for each of the older lens models.  There is nothing included for the 60mm macro or later lenses, which is not surprising given the 2011 file creation date.  My conclusion is that no firmware upgrade is yet necessary for the 60mm macro and later lenses as the firmware they come with already includes all the latest features.

I don't have the 60mm macro myself but will try to address your earlier questions/comments.

You mentioned not being able to get 2x zoom using iFn.  Manual focus assist is not a part of iFn.  On the NX11, there's a menu item "MF Assist" where you can choose from two assist methods, either MF Assist Bar or Magnification.  If magnification is selected, then when you switch a native NX lens to MF and start to turn the focus ring in shooting mode, the screen or evf image will be magnified x 2.  Magnification is cancelled on half press of the shutter.  If a legacy lens is being used via an adapter, the camera can't detect movement of the focusing ring, so the Ok button must be pressed to initiate magnification.

I don't have an iFn lens here to test with, so I could be wrong but I think iFn may need to be turned off to use MF assist because the focus ring is used in iFn to select between various functions (except on lenses that have a dedicated iFn ring).  The 60mm macro has full time manual focus, so I think you should get magnification as soon as you start to turn the focusing ring.

You also mentioned not being able to get 1:1 macro magnification.  As it is not a zoom lens, firmware has no effect on that.  The magnification varies depending on the subject distance.  Lenses claimed to have 1:1 magnification usually only achieve that within a small range of subject distances, generally at and near the minimum focusing distance.  Move closer!

I agree, they make it clear as mud for the unaware newcomer that the lens firmware is on the nx10 product page.

They do have a product page for each lens which they could put to good use.

But its much more fun searching
