NX11 with 50-200mm lens - doesn't work... :(

Your assumptions seem logical to me.  I would also suspect a contact problem. You might try cleaning the contacts on the lens with a pencil eraser and also ensure the lens is fully locked in place (you should hear a click as it locks).

Since the lens has iFn, it must be the latest model.  I would still expect its basic functions to work on your NX11 without updating the lens or body firmware.  You'll probably need the firmware updates to get iFn working though.   I could be wrong but I think the lens firmware is not specific to the body.  i.e. it should be suitable for any NX model.  I think it is only listed under NX10 for convenience rather than Samsung having to include it on their website separately under each and every model.

NX lenses have fly-by-wire manual focus so power and data connection is required even for manual focus.  If the aperture is showing as F-- the camera must be detectinng it as an adapted legacy lens, so again I agree with your conclusion that it is probably a contact problem.

If you manage to bring it to life, be aware that there is specific lens firmware for the iFn version of the lens compared to the earlier 50-200 versions.  You need to have the correct lens attached and the correct firmware on the card.  Otherwise the firmware upgrade option will be greyed out.

Definitely a contact problem. I have an NX11 (firmware 1.12) with 18-55 kit lens, 50-200mm iFn zoom, 20mm pancake and 85mm f1.4 and no problems with any mounting. Try cleaning the contacts on the 50-200 as a first step. Otherwise, take the camera to a Samsung dealer and see if another lens does or doesn't mount. If the latter, it may be the camera body contacts.

As your camera works with the 18-55, I think that exonerates the camera. I have an NX10 with the 18-55 (plastic mount) and the 50-200 (metal mount but earlier version than yours).  Metal or plastic mount shouldn't make any difference.  The lens contacts are on a separate plastic insert to the mount itself.  Perhaps that is loose or there might be a loose connection inside the lens.

I thought failure to display the aperture setting might indicate the lens wasn't locking in properly, so I did a little test with my NX10.  If I hold down the lens unlocking button and start to unmount the lens, I can rotate it by maybe 1 mm before the aperture display goes to F-- and as soon as that happens I get a popup message on the display "Lens detached".   If I then rotate it back towards the locked position, the correct f-stop is displayed and I get another popup message, "Lens attached".  That happens well before it clicks back into the locked position, so it doesn't seem to be too critical on mine.

It is a difficult situation for warranty because of the place of purchase being in another country but it does seem to faulty.  Try ringing Samsung support locally to see what they suggest.

Can i ask what version on firmware you show next to the 'lens' for your NX11?

I know the latest for the 'body'= 01.12. The 'lens' was initially released with 01.00.

to the nx10 model if you search for it...

When you unzip the file - there is several options on lens.bin you can select.

Sorry if I take a post a few months old, but I had the same problem with the same lens as mentioned anzoid, and wanted to know if he had resolved the issue and how. It was a problem of lens or the camera? This is because I bought all the kit (camera and lens) in a few months and I'd like to challenge myself this year on holiday in Sardinia. Thank you.
