Studio sample of D800 + Nikon 24-120mm f/4.0 VR

Hi everyone,

Just thought I should share a sample image from one of my studio shoot, where I used Nikon 24-120mm f/4.0 lens. The lens is very sharp, and goes nicely with D800. Hope this helps someone who is interested in this lens.

Interesting would be to compare this image with a 60MP Mamya MF camera....which I also used for the same shoot

Posting links as image link somehow not getting the full quality of the image.

I like the 24-120mm.  It is sharper than the Canon 24-105mm F4 I used to use.

I have a question on your lighting.  I can't figure out why the catch lights don't match.  It is like one eye is seeing a different light than the other.  Strange.

Good catch. Hmmm. I am now as curious as you.

Also, what am I missing? The largest image I can see is about 2MP. "X3LARGE". How can anything be assessed (sharpness) based on such a downsized image?

To get everyone back on point; I love that lens and that combination.  I find the 24-120 a truly under rated lens.    I shot this photo wide open at F4 and it looks pretty sharp.

The lighting was very different to what I am normally familiar with. Here is what I remember:

1. One huge octabox on top of the model.

2. One directional light at the back of the model pointing on the backdrop.

3. One beauty dish on the rear left of the model for the hair.

4. Two 1 feet by 3 feet softbox on both sides with barn door.

5. I can't remember clearly, but there was a kind of a flat panel lighting on her right, and on the left side there was a silver reflector.

I am not very good at lighting...

Btw, no sharpness was applied in post processing, only crop and some hair removal from the face.

Re: Not exactly full size!

Your image is 3886x2999, the D800 is 7360 x 4912.... cool idea though.

Here is a full size image taken with my D800E
