Only 3 Days In &

My Nexus10 that right-outta-the-box updated to JB v4.2.1 just now again updated to JB v4.2.2. Wonder what that has in store for me or whether I'll even notice anything, since the description of the update was minimal @ best.

Conversely, my 1 month old Nexus (L700) SmartPhone that just last week updated to JB v4.2.1 has yet to receive v4.2.2. Makes me wonder how closely these Nexuses get their supposed 1st before all others OS updates. I'd have guessed they'd both update @ the same time, especially since they're both sharing the same WiFi simultaneously as I type this.... Aside from the camera interface function that changed significantly last week I can't say as I noticed much of any other changes on my phone..

Is there a webpage anywhere that explains in any detail what these OS updates add &/or fix?

PS: Can't product tag this post with neither of my Nexuses because they're not in the list & bring up "No Match" in the Search...

And while I'm at it, when are these "Connect" forums going to get away from the too bright Very Light Grey & White page background... I can't stand it....

Re: Only 3 Days In &

I have a Nexus 7 that updated to 4.2.2 today.  If you search the Internet there are many pages that explain the small changes that a move from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 involves.  It's mostly to do with the quick settings drop down screen and some hints at extended battery life.  Google haven't officially acknowledged the update yet but will shortly.

Expect a bigger change when (if) the Nexus devices move to Android 5.0, sometime this year.

Actually the biggest change with 4.2.x is support for multiple user accounts on a single device.  Each has totally independent data areas.  So if you want to create a 'guest' user with no security so friends can borrow your tablet for a quick web browse, etc.  They can sign in as guset and not be able to see your files.  There are other advantages, but it gets more technical than i would like to see on a photocentric board.

Due to bandwidth limitations, these kinds of updates are necessarily "rolled out" to batches of units, one batch after another. Depending on the size of the update and the number of units to be updated, it can take days, sometimes a couple of weeks, to get all of the batches pushed out.

FYI, Connect Forums are mirrored on the same DPR Forums which have a black background.

My point is that it's too bright, the total opposite of the original dark scheme... I wish we could choose background colors, or even just the option to change it to the same colors as the original fora scheme...

Thanks for those... Now I know my "Sprint" (‚ÄčL700) version Nexus isn't a part of this latest update yet but may be so honored eventually...

As seeblue wrote, all you need to do is to go there from the DPReview forums. Or if you wish, you can use these links:

The multiple user accounts came with 4.2.1, yesterday's upgrade to 4.2.2 gave a smaller set of changes as I mentioned last night

Re: Only 3 Days In &

Thanks for that! Whew! I beg your pardons... I never noticed these fora in the forums list on the dark side...

Up till now I always got here via the Connect link at the top right corner of the DPR pane (next to link directory).. From that link everything is too bright & white. Then when you hit the forum list there's only the 5 forums for Mobile Photog & OS's... I just assumed that was the only way to get here...

Re: Only 3 Days In &

Correct on the 4.2.1 multiuser feature.  I was not certain that you were on that previously or if you had gone from a 4.1.x to 4.2.2.  Certainly possible that someone would buy a Nexus 7 in the box this week that is factory loaded to v4.1.x and their first update would be 4.2.2.  I am still waiting on the 4.2.2 bump on my Nexus 7.
