Samsung NX 1000 - Lens/ adapters?

I have at the moment the standard 20-50mm lens for my NX1000.

What im looking for is a good compact lens for taking with me for nights out / or places where im unable to take a bag.

I also would like a good zoom lens and a lens suitable for nightshooting as thats something i would love to get into. Also a lens for capturing sports/cars/fast moving objects would be good.

Im very new to all this but wanting to learn. I have seen alot of adapters on EBAY for differenent make of lenses all of which are alot cheaper than the samsung lenses. Is this a good route to go down?

Is there any lens or adapter and lens anyone can recommened?

I'm using adapters Canon/NX, KonicaAR/NX, SonyMinolta/NX and I am very satisfied with these (cheap) adapters.

Sounds like you have big plans! The Samsung pancakes are a great option for making your NX a compact low light camera. I have the 30mm and love it, and it fits nicely into a variety of jacket/pants pockets.

I recently got an adapter and started picking up legacy lenses. I have 5 at the moment, and have spent a total of about $120. I've been getting Minolta MC/MD lenses, as they have a variety of focal lengths/apertures available at a reasonable price. I love the 50mm f/1.4 and the 58mm f/1.4. The 135mm f/2.8 has promise, but I haven't had much chance to use it yet.

The reason they're so affordable compared to NX lenses: They're old, and not many folks shoot film anymore. Fact is, they're high quality glass that commanded high prices when new, that was just 30-40 years ago... NX lenses have auto focus, and a variety of other fancy electronic stuff going on behind the scenes.

Legacy lenses will never be as compact as NX pancakes. I recently got a 45mm f/2 lens that is no bigger than the 30mm pancake, but once you add the length of the adapter, it's probably the4 same size as the new NX 45mm f/1.8. But it was only $20...

30mm pancake is about the same size as, and the same equivalent focal length (Once you apply the 1.5 crop factor...) as, the 45mm on the Minolta 35mm camera.

When mounted on the NX, it's still relatively compact, and pocketable.  It's also very light.

really stupid question but im really new to all this, if i used a adapter and other lens when i focused on something would my camera still zoom in to see if i had correctly focused to where i wanted it to be? not sure if i explained that right, just hard to see if your focus is correct on a wee screen without the zoom in on the focus wouldnt want to lose that ability with a adapter etc

A good camera - like NEX or NX - always offers methods to get exact focus with manual lenses.

With lenses+adapter you don't have automatic - most is manual.

Pancakes are for APS-C, legacy lenses are designed for 24x36mm = full frame

Not automatically, you have to press a button, the OK button, and the camera zooms in so you can focus.  The amount it zooms in is configurable in the menus. On the NX you can only zoom into the center spot with manual lenses.

As a side point, for 30mm f/2 or 20mm f/2.8, you are probably going to be cheaper going with genuine Samsung lenses. The savings are mostly for the 40mm and up lenses. Plus, it is fun to shoot with old manual lenses.

Re: Samsung NX 1000 - Lens/ adapters?

There are Legacy pancakes some of which make the thinnest of APS-C lenses look decidedly bulky . the Pentax 40mm springs to mind

Re: Samsung NX 1000 - Lens/ adapters?

If you want to take GOOD photos, it must/should not be pancake. Pancakes are for lazy people. If I don't want carry heavy equipment *), I use my 130g cameras, 16mpixel, 1920x1080/50fps, 4x or 5x zoom, pocketable.

Not "Lazy" but convenient - with a comprpmise ..  I`d take a "proper" lens without the compromise every time. all I was saying was that there were plenty of Pancakes long before Digital was even thought of and many were a lot thinner than the current AF APS-C ones

Re: Samsung NX 1000 - Lens/ adapters?

Stick an oldy pancake on an NX and, once you account for the 20-ish mm difference in flange distance (The adapter...), it's no longer a pancake. It is no coincidence that the thinnest pancakes correlate closely with the flange distance of a given camera system. (~20mm pancake on NX and ~40mm pancake on FF...)

Re: Samsung NX 1000 - Lens/ adapters?

Hi:

I'm new to photography/cameras/lenses, so can you help me? I bought a Samsung NX1000 and have 2 old Minolta lenses my dad gave me (maybe more than 20 years old!).

After reading some topics on the forum, I bought an adaptor I thought was compatible, but I was wrong!(http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221233856376?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649). Can you help me pick the right adaptor for the lenses (please see picture of lenses)?

Old lenses, both Minolta

Adaptor

Thank you!

Re: Samsung NX 1000 - Lens/ adapters?

Had the same problem with a Minolta adapter from Roxane on a nx1100. No problem with M42 and Konica adapters also from Roxane. Returned the adapter and am waiting for a new Minolta adapter from another supplier. Maybe you can try another adapter?

Hello, if  the lens is completely manual, if you control the diaphragm if it is automatic canon type EF, you cannot, unless you have an adapter with the contacts, type speedbooster, and I think that for Samsung there is none. I hope it helps you.
