Nex-6 & 35mm 1.8 OSS New Firmware Focus Comparison Video

Just done a very quick & crude comparison video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHwo__v0YNc

It certainly shows the new firmware has eradicated the focus 'hunting' experienced before the update.

Cheers,

Lee

Nice to see the hunting gone. Cannot really tell if it is focussing faster to be honest. It feels to me as it takes just as long, but instead of hunting it slides to correct focus in the same amount of time. But that's just perception I guess.

Two things I am wondering about the new firmware: how fast is the SEL50F18, because that one is notoriously slow in "old fashioned" CDAF mode. And the second thing is: does the Tamron 18-200 NEX lens benefit from this update by accident, since the SEL18200LE has been added and that lens looks like a rebranded Tamron anyway.

Anyway, thanks for this video!

Thanks Lee!

I've just updated mine and noticing the different too.
Can't wait to try the AF-C performance on moving object, bad weather..

Hope you all have fun with the new firmware

Nice, the new enabled hybrid PDAF sensor does seem to be faster than pure CDAF. Thanks for sharing the comparison vid!

Waiting for my country (Singapore) to fully update the firmware pages. They don't have the NEX6 fw update and the new wireless auto transfer.

Pdaf doesn't work in movie mode and only works on stills with f6.3 and up like f8.

Somehow this mix-up will never die. PDAF works with Aperture values *lower* than f/6.3 (5.6, 3.5, 2, etc). That is to say, large apertures are required for PDAF, not large aperture *values*.

I do wish this crucial oversight didn't make it into the instructions. A simple parenthetical reference (like you just made) adding to that point would have prevented all this.
