D800 Marching Focal Point, Normal? Feature?

Hi Guys,

Would like to run something by the group.  My D800 will, from time to time, start to march the (single) focal point across the view finder right to left, then wrap around (I have focal wrapping turned on).  The point will wrap three of four times then stop where it started.  I've seen this behavior in both S and C modes and only when single focal point is selected.

Yes, I'm guessing this is not normal as it's kind of a pain in the butt.  Curious if others have seen this.  The camera is due for a trip to service to resolve validated left focus issue.  I'm going to have them look at this behavior as well.

Thanks for your comments in advance,

Brent

For the left-eyed, the nose can sometimes be responsible.

lol.  Yes, that's a good one!  The camera will continue to do this if I pull it away from my face.  Might just be a stick multi-selector control. The control doesn't seem to be sticking though.

If you held the multi selector down with your nose, it may take the display a little while to catch up.

My nose has been responsible for this behaviour in the past!

Baffling/worrying until you find out why.
