About to order a Sony RX1...
1

...but I could not bear to part with my X100. I dumped a bunch of other stuff in trade, but I just couldn't lose the X100. Note, I didn't say my preorder for the X100s. Sad as it is, I have an attachment to my X100. Even though it's technically inferior to my impending purchase, I couldn't do it.

Nuts? Probably. Don't care. I was able to get rid of stuff I absolutely wasn't using to get something I really want...without having to sacrifice something I really like (and USE).

Keep in mind that with the Sony RX1 you gain about one stop of speed/DOF, but you lose the built-in VF and the pocketability.  Seems like kind of a wash.

I see RX1 as a stepping stone to FF mirrorless.

you got already a few cameras:

why not stick with one camera and use it ?

sorry if it sounds a bit harsh...

Oh, the consumption police are at work now.

Having more than one camera is fun.

I wonder why the OP gets into trouble for deciding to keep his X100?

Not right away.  If I do get one, it'll be the EVF.

I was wondering that as well.  Let's see what kind of hand-wringing and garment-rending occurs when I decide to ditch my DSLR!

I'd be tempted to wait if happy with X100 - if rumours are true, in another 12 months, the whole FF based scene could change.

Your first comment wasn't harsh.  This one, however, comes really close.  It is your opinion, and you are entitled to it...but you didn't share it with just yourself.  You shared it with this forum and, in effect, called me an idiot.

You don't even know me.  It usually takes people years to figure that out.

I do plenty to try and make the world a better place.  I give my time, my talent, and some of my money to those who have less than I.  I am in a position to do that, feed my family, pay my bills, and save for the future.  If I want to indulge a bit...so what!?!

Keep in mind that I decided to get rid of gear I wasn't really using to defray the cost of this luxury.  If you want to think I'm an idiot...fine.  If you want to think that about anyone else...fine.  Just keep it to yourself.

Believe me...I was tempted.  I've been wanting to get into FF for a while now, but just haven't wanted another DSLR (or even another ILC of any kind).  This camera may satisfy my curiosity.

You're right, and I agree in theory.  But I do get 12 more megapixels...which allows for LPS (lazy photographer syndrome).  If I want to crop, I'll have tons of room to do it!  I slap myself on the hand with a ruler every time I do it, so I'll learn to compose properly...eventually!

I do like having the VF when I want it, but I'm not uncomfortable without it.  I don't really see my X100 as pocketable (for me).  I keep it in the half-case with a strap (full on never-ready when traveling).

Why? What is so special (to you) about RX1?

The presence of the Xtrans in the X100s really has to call into question the RX1. Other than (1) Fuji raw decoding and (2) razor thin DOF, the X100s seems to be superior (in my subjective judgement).

What does the 35mm sensor get you? Certainly not IQ improvements.

Then I started thinking about it. And then the X100s was announced.

Please go through the DPReview image comparison and select the X-Pro1 and RX1 (or A99). It seems to me that the differences are negligible and the X-Pro1 is superior above ISO 1600. Its not inconceivable that the X100s will have superior IQ to the X-Pro1. If that is the case then all that remains is the "pleasure" of owning an RX1.

Cheers!

RX1 should be a very good one... if you are not in a hurry i would suggest to give 23mmf1.4 a try with the X mount camera. But if 35mm is the only FL you need, rx1 is the one.
