My E-PL5 grip is as large as G5 grip now

According to camerasize.com Panasonic G5 grip at the top extends up to the end of "25" label on Pana 25mm lens and at the bottom it has the same level as 25mm lens focus ring.

My grip has the same thickness:

The new grip allows room for my little finger and it helps handling longer lenses and larger flashes:

new grip 3

To make this I bought extra MCG-2 grip and stuck some A+B epoxy putty to it.
First, I hammered couple of tiny nails and a push pin into the grip making sure putty won't fall in future. Then applied putty shaping it according to my palm. The putty hardened in few hours and then I spray-painted it in black because I only had white putty.

This is how the grip looks in comparison with other grips:

Left to right: stock E-PL5 grip, MCG-2 large grip, modified MCG-2 grip

With such grip it's possible to hold E-PL5 with 3 pound 300mm F4.5 legacy lens in one hand:

E-PL5, custom grip and 3 pound Tair-3 lens

And a good thing is that this grip is optional. I will use it with large lenses and flashes. If I need compactness (which is rather often) I still have unmodified MCG-2 grip. The extra grip is only $19 and it takes half a minute to swap grips.

Same thing works for E-P3, of course. Isn't it nice that Olympus allows cheap interchangeable grips?

too UGLY for my taste

Hum......Nice Effort, but it really is too ugly for my taste.  Doesn't Olympus sell an OFFICIAL grip attachment?  I rather pay for that.

It may look ugly but it's very practical. Besides, when I hold the camera the grip isn't visible anyway.

I could have made it nicer. I could form a shape with plasticine, photograph it from different angles and create 3D model that can be printed on 3D printer. Don't have time for this, this grip just works. Maybe 3rd party accessory makers will pick up the idea. After all, E-PL5 grip should be much easier/cheaper to make than E-M5 grip.

I'm not sure I understand this question. Olympus does sell official grip attachment, MCG-2, which I showed on pictures in OP. It's the largest one available, and I built my grip based on MCG-2.

MCG-2 is good enough for many needs, BTW. I used it on E-P3 since it became available 1.5 year ago and I didn't need anything larger. E-PL5 is not as tall as E-P3 and I made the grip longer for comparable comfort.

Looks OK to me

Very much like the idea. I suppose a person could make it as pretty as one wanted - or keep it simple and functional.
