Adobe Bridge with NO photoshop on Windows 7?

Hi,

I used to use Adobe Bridge to view files from SD card and rename/transfer to local disk. But for Windows 7 I can't find Bridge to download? I tried using ViewNX to rename the file and transfer but I am not seeing the combination I like and I used to use it earlier.

Can some one help me with installing Adobe Bridge on computer (I have LR4).

Thanks,

Ray

Re: Adobe Bridge with NO photoshop on Windows 7?

Adobe doesn't offer Bridge as a separate product. It's included with their Creative Suite Products, and is not sold as a Stand Alone Application.

Now, they do have a Downloads page with updates to it. But, my guess is that they're going to check to make sure you have CS6 (or an earlier version if you use an earlier update) installed, since Bridge is not offered at a separate product.

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=108&platform=Windows

You'd have to see if one of them would install as a stand alone program without having an existing copy or not. But, probably not, as you'd normally need to buy one of the Creative Suite Products (like Photoshop CS6) to get Bridge.

So, my guess is that the updates will refuse to install on a machine that doesn't have a corresponding copy of CS6 (or an existing copy of Bridge that's the same version you're trying to update).

It wouldn't hurt to try one of the updates (other than the time to download it, unzip it and see if it will install or not).

But, I doubt they'll work unless you have a legal copy of one of the Creative Suite Products (e.g., Photoshop CS6) that you're trying use the Bridge Update with..

the updates patch an existing install, other renaming software...

I just downloaded one of the updates and looked at the .zip contents, and it looks like they run a patchinstaller program that's designed to update an existing installation of Bridge.

So, if you really want Bridge, you'll probably have to buy a copy of Photoshop to get it (as they don't offer it separately from their Creative Suite Products).

But, there are lots of programs that can handle renaming tasks for you. Even Lightroom may be able to do what you want if you dig into the import options. Here's a page on their filename templates creator that may be handy for that purpose:

Here's a commercial product that is designed to handle importing images for you with renaming functions built in (and you can download a trial to see if it does what you want or not):

There are lots of free programs around to do that kind of thing now, too.

Try using Total Commander (http://www.ghisler.com). I use it for all copying, renaming, ftp-ing purposes and much more.

Or FastStone, which is free:

Thanks everyone for your replies and detail. I did try installing update and as others mentioned were not able to install Bridge.

I have to download other free software mentioned here and will see how that works.

Thanks again,

Ray

+1 on FastStone

I use it a lot.  As an aside, isn't that a dumb name for photographic software.  Don't get me wrong, I really like the program, but I've always thought the name was odd.
