Could you please explain, do you mean that the view on screen is blocked by the green bar and you can see the subject well?

By Direct Manual Focus I mean the quick-shift type focusing with NX lenses, like when you turn the lens' focusing ring, the camera switches to manual focus right away. So that manual focusing would be available all the time, just turn the focus ring. Now you have to change it in the settings to manually focus (from AF to MF). And I am talking NX lenses here, not MF lenses.

To be honest I don't really understand what you mean by "the view on screen is blocked by the green bar". Nothing is "blocked" as far as I can tell. Green bar works as it should I guess, but to be honest I haven't still really figured out how it works. Just too complicated for me so I don't use it. And I haven't used it with MF lenses so I can't comment those.

Thanks for the reply

Just guessing, really didn’t get your description and have never seen the focus (peaking) bar. Read there is a lag of response, at would make it hard and not that all quick.

On the focus-ring; the lens has a AF/MF switch along with Manual Focus Assist (enable/disable) in the MENU, would that solve the issue for you? I’m weighing in all the facts on a NX10-NX11 conversion, for now losing RAW 30f bust kill it for me and the rev-1.31 on the NX10 gives nearly all the functions discussed.

A year or so back I asked Samsung to consider applying the Manual Focus Assist for straight manual lenses and prehaps they took the advise. For me; as a professional interested in a APS-C, mirror-less format compact camera (which the mirror-less design made possible) the use of my classic high-grade manual lenses by simply adding a lens-mount converter ring with no optics involved. I can now say that Samsung has stepped up to make this all useful in the NX-10.

I’m also glad to see that Samsung listened to the voices (myself included) on the need of an articulating display screen and carried this out in the NX-20 but I wonder if the NX-20 also carried over all the good things from NX-10 or were improved upon. I would like to know?

Re: Give new life to your NX10 -> Upgrade it to an NX11

Hi all,

I have just applied this tweak to my nx10, now it seems I take 3 frames for every shot? while deleting some shots I find there are 3 of each one to delete!

Am I missing something?

Is it possible to revert back to the original nx10 firmware? what would the button sequence be to do that?

cheers

Tom

Ok,

Must be a problem with the 1.11 FW, I have just updated to 1.12 and the 3 copies problem has gone!

cheers

Tom

Re: Give new life to your NX10 -> Upgrade it to an NX11

I have been successful in upgrading my NX10@fw 1.11  to NX11@fw 1.21. Everything works as expected!

I also suspect that the same could be done to upgrade non Ifn lenses to Ifn versions. The firmware files have the same size. In the normal upgrade Menu, it won't allow you to. In the service menu it would allow a flash but it gives a big warning that the lens and firmware do not match. I haven't had the nerves to ignore this on my 18-55, considering that the Ifn version has a different on-the-lens button layout. The 30mm might be the same for Ifn and non-Ifn but again I don't want to brick those babies.

Samsung removed access to the hidden service menu in NX10 firmware version 1.32.  The last version with which you could access the service menu and thus load NX11 firmware was 1.31. I guess that means you're stuck as an NX10.

I didn't find the extra NX11 features of much benefit to me personally, so I reverted mine to an NX10.  I keep it at version 1.31 firmware to allow me to repeat the process if necessary.

Incidentally. access to the service menu was also removed from later versions of the NX11 firmware, so those who converted to NX11 and then updated to later NX11 firmware would be unable to convert back to NX10.  I don't know which NX11 firmware version was the last with access to the service menu but version 1.11 has it.

Locked out of recent lens use?

Doesn't that mean he will not be able to use some more recent lenses on the NX10. This shows a major disadvantage to DSLR's as far as I can see. Surely this undermines the whole concept of these as system cameras if they are obsoleted so rapidly. Will there be some stage where the NX1 is locked out in the future?

I would welcome comments on this as I am not sure what this means myself.

When a new lens is released, they usually update the body firmwares to support said lens.

It does not mean that that lens will not work on older bodies or older firmwares, it just means that it will not be optimised or be able to use special features of said lenses.

I just dug up my old NX10 with NX11 firmware and put my newest lens (45mm 3D) and even though results are not spectacular on the focusing side of things, it works.

No.  Firmware upgrades to any later version can still be done through the main user menu.

However downgrading to an earlier version was only possible through the hidden service menu.  This allowed a back-door method of switching to NX11 firmware. NX11 firmware version numbers are lower than those for the NX10 because the NX10 has been out longer and had more updates. Consequently switching to NX11 firmware appears to the NX10 as a downgrade and is not possible througn the main user menu.

Samsung have cut off the back door (which only the service department were supposed to know about anyway) but you can still load any newer firmware.   I am voluntarily staying on the older firmware because when I buy one of the newer lenses it will be with a new camera.

This shows a major disadvantage to DSLR's as far as I can see. Surely this undermines the whole concept of these as system cameras if they are obsoleted so rapidly. Will there be some stage where the NX1 is locked out in the future?

Quite the opposite.  Which DSLR company provides firmware updates to 4 year old models so that you can use the extra features of their latest lenses?
