Pentax K01:Focusing Problem with Pentax 43/1.9 Limited Lens

With the K01 camera on Auto setting, a  red "F--" appears in the lower left hand corner of the LCD screen. The lens does not focus.I cannot find the "F--" symbol explained in the Owners Manual.

This lens operates fine on my *ist DS. Other Pentax lenses operate on the K01 fine. Something wrong with this particular 43/1.9?

Are the contacts of the lens clean?

F-- sounds like an aperture thing. Check if the lens is in A mode. That could explain the "F--", but it has nothing to do with focus.

Thank you, Miles! Yes, when I put the green A on the lens to align with the red line on the lens, the camera focuses. Any explanation as to why? Much appreciated.

You need 'allow aperture' enabled in the menu system.

Otherwise any none 'A' lens (or swicthed off A) will not function.

When the lens is in the 'A' position it set to allow the camera to control the aperture, any other position and the aperture is set manually on the lens.

The camera has no means of knowing this so shows F-- rather than the aperture set and without the menu enabling it blocks the use of the lens to protect accidental mis setting.

Strange... Maybe it was on f/22 and there wasn't enough light for the K-01 sensor-based AF to work? Just guessing... Glad it works now!
