remote shutter release

Can anyone in the group recommend a wired remote shutter release for the sx50?  Am I correct in thinking that wireless isn't an option?  Thanks much for your input.

Re: remote shutter release

Sue,  In the instructions there is reference to RS 60 E3 a remote wired shutter release.

I have seen wireless on the internet for most cameras at various prices.  You fit a receiver into the hot shoe and hold the transmitter, but you need to make sure the connection is for the Canon.

I don't have either of these, but there is an original Canon model and an off-brand available.

See here for Canon:

And here for the much cheaper off-brand:

The people who got the off-brand seem to like it, especially at the price.

And since the SX50 doesn't have a wi-fi radio in it, it can't be used by wi-fi to activate the shutter. Though somebody may come up with a wi-fi dongle to attach to the remote port.

Sue  Have a look at this one.  Never used it but the principle is that it relaces the wried version

That looks great, Bob.  Has anyone out there tried a wireless with the sx50?

Will let you know

Ron,

The product page says it works on Canon 3-pin systems. You may have to get a separate adaptor cable to work with the SX50. See Augustin's current thread.

Does anyone know if any of these devices work with the SX 40?

The 2 ring single pin cable that fits into my SX50 does not fit into what looks like a similar receptacle on the SX40. Don't know what the little hole is for on the SX40 since it doesn't go deep enough.

Re: remote shutter release

I'm taking a chance that since it uses the 3-pin system it will provide the same 3 leads necessary for the stereo minijack used by the SX50. The remote only costs as much I spend on beer while playing a round of golf.

May only take a ready-made cable, but as a EE I'm prepared to make it work. I know a site that sells custom cables.

I'm using this one on an SX50, and it works great.  Adds a bunch of timing features.

Re: remote shutter release

The following will work for any  Canon camera using the RS-60E3:

Remote Shutter

I bought the similar one and made up a cable to work, but this will save you about $25.

Works just like the camera button itself.

Re: remote shutter release

Does that mean this remote  I found on ebay will work?

Thanks in advance

The wireless remote that works well with the sx50hs is "pixel" and you can find it at Amazon.
