Re: It's a good place

Just realised that I failed to answer your non-exhibit based questions due to my (18 month old) son attacking my keyboard and me forgetting about the rest of it as a consequence!  Sorry.

Here you go:

Back to a few questions about the camera:

Does the EPL5 image stabilazation hum like in the EPM5?

No it doesn't, although it doesn't in the E-M5 either post firmware 1.5

And is the shutter sound as quiet or more quiet than EPM5?

about the same, but the E-PL5 shutter is more audible (it's a bit more noticeable (to me at least) rather than being louder)

Do you use the clip on EVF?

Yes I do and it's good (I had a VF-2 that I used to use with my E-P3), but it falls off all the time in my bag.

I prefer the rangefinder style over the mini DSLR MFT so thinking of getting a black EPL5 + EVF as a travel camera.

The E-PL5 would be ideal for that purpose. It's great for urban photography as (at least with my black one) people either don't notice it or think you are holding a compact.

But is it really true the British mostly stole the artworks? Have any of the countries ask for their stlen art returned back to them?

No - it's not true.

People who live in the same geographical space as the original owners of the atrifacts sometimes ask for them back.

It's bogus though. The people living in eg modern day egypt are no more ancient egyptian than I am an eskimo.

For the most famous case - the Elgin Marbles - they were legitemately bought from the government of athens at the time. That this was not the moden day greeks is true, however it wasn't the modern day greeks who made the marbles.

Re: The British Museum with my E-PL5

Really enjoyed these, terrific pictures. I live about 30 miles south of London and must must must spend more time in any of the fabulous museums.

EPL2 at the moment, wondering between OMD & EPL5. But bit of me hankers after a built in flash.

Soundslike you are warming to he EPL5 after initial reservations?

Kind regards

Edward

Thank you! I don't think you"ll miss the built in flash with either of the E-M5 or E-PL5. The low light ability of these cameras is so good you can still get acceptable results at ISO 1600-3200. Definitely much happier with the E-PL5 than initially. The screen is a little small but the results are amazing. If I had to pick I would get the E-M5, but the E-PL5 is a very good camera.

Hi there

Thank you!

As to the provenance of the exhibits, many were acquired in ways that may seem morally or ethically dubious now (I reference this in my blog post). Certainly I'm aware of demands having been made for the return of certain exhibits by Nigeria, Egypt and Greece (most people are probably aware of the debate around the Elgin marbles).

I'm not sure how many were "stolen" in the traditional sense of the word. There are certainly exhibits that were acquired through the expansion of the British Empire (which fall closest to that definition), but the most contentious ones seem to be those where there is a debate around whether people were given good value for what was acquired (as an example, think about Peter Minuit's purchase of Manhattan Island for 60 guilders, the equivalent of about $1000) or where (as in the case of the Elgin marbles) the relevant authorities (from where the exhibits were acquired) at the time don't represent the current nation states concerned (by way of example, in the case of Greece, the Ottoman administration in Athens pre independence of Greece from the Ottoman empire).

As I said to another poster, I suspect the above is sufficiently off topic that a debate would be better hosted on my blog post or elsewhere...

Thanks for the explanation.  Very helpful.

I've bookmarked your blog site.

Regards.

Re: The British Museum with my E-PL5

I have no doubt that low light ability is improving with each new generation, and yet there still are those times when you need flash. It just seems a bit deliberate to omit the flash. The EPL2 chassis finds room for it so I can only assume that this will be part of an EP5 in due course.

I  appreciate that the clip on flash comes with the camera, but then there are VF2 issues! No doubt it is the role of the amateur to be never satisfied.

Cheers - I suspect I could have spent hours there rather than 45 minutes. Fascinating and beautiful museum
